Look: Q&A with Berkeley Prep DE Keon Keeley and Wharton DB DiJon Johnson

SBLive Sports Florida caught up with Berkeley Prep DE, Notre Dame commit Keon Keely and Wharton defensive back DiJon Johnson

TAMPA, FLORIDA – When comes to college commitments this time of the year, many players that are still up in the air are making their decisions be known just before the 2022 season starts.

Over at VSN/Florida High School Football’s Hillsborough County Media Day event at Raymond James Stadium, we ended up catching up with Berkeley Prep defensive end Keon Keeley about the 2022 campaign and his commitment with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

There’s been a buzz on Twitter about Keeley’s commitment status to the Fighting Irish, as Lehigh Acres running back Richard Young tweeted out back on July 29th about hinting to the Notre Dame commit about joining him over at the University of Alabama.

Keeley, who is the No. 8 ranked player in the country according to 247Sports, is a 5-start rated edge rusher and last season for the Buccaneers had a strong campaign for Berkeley Prep. The 6-foot-6, 242-pound defensive end ended the 2021 season with 61 tackles, 34 for a loss and 16.5 sacks.

SBLive Sports Florida was also about to speak with Wharton senior defensive back DiJon Johnson (three interceptions, 10 passes deflected in 2021), who de-committed from Ohio State University back on July 30th and is now re-opened his options when it comes to where he will play college football at next year.

Johnson comes in ranked as the No. 20 cornerback in the state of Florida, No. 93 nationally. Though Johnson hasn’t leaned one way or another as of yet, he received an offer from the University of Florida back on Aug. 1 and predictions across the board have the Wharton defensive back heading to Gainesville.

All eyes in the Tampa Bay Area when it comes to high school football will be on Johnson and the Wharton Wildcats when they host the 2021 Class 6A state champion Jesuit Tigers on Aug 26.
