CCC edging out Sebring highlights Hillsborough/Pinellas Week 5 results

The Marauders get a key fourth quarter touchdown from quarterback Jershaun Newton to beat Blue Streaks

Hurricane Ian is barreling down on Hillsborough and Pinellas counties in the next couple of days, but the Week 5 slate of games went through without any run ins because of bad weather. The game that stands out the most when it comes to final results is Armwood upending 2021 Class 6A state champion Jesuit as the Tigers have lost back-to-back games for the first time since 2017. Many thought the game between Wharton and Sumner would be a good one, but the Wildcats turned it into a blowout. When it comes to Pinellas County action, speaking of teams that are back, the Largo Packers. The Packers easily got by Clearwater and East Lake won its rivalry game versus Tarpon Springs in a blowout. Countryside won a thriller over Palm Harbor University and Calvary Christian won on the road versus Sarasota. There was plenty of games all over the Week 5 slate, so let’s take a look at them.

Clearwater Central Catholic 16, Sebring 10: The Marauders needed a strong defensive effort against the Blue Streaks in order to hang on for win No. 4 on the season. Down 10-9 in the fourth quarter, CCC drove down the field and quarterback Jershaun Newton connected with wide receiver David Green on a 5-yard touchdown to take a 16-10 lead. The Marauders secured the victory on a late interception by defensive back Tre McClellan.

Tampa Bay Tech 54, Gaither 14: These Tampa Bay Tech Titans are on a roll and the blowout win over Gaither is a tall telling sign. Titans’ quarterback Xavione Washington completed 10-of-13 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Tampa Bay Tech has improved to 5-0 on the season. Next up, Tampa Bay Tech is slated to face Freedom on Friday night.

Sickles 56, King 21: Sickles’ quarterback Brandon Royal had himself a huge day through the air as he completed 23-of-34 passing for a career-high 508 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Isaiah Hudson snagged 11 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown. The Gryphons were coming off a tough 17-14 loss to rival Alonso on Monday night. The victory is win No. 1 for Sickles on the season.
