Hillsborough & Pinellas Week 7 Roundup (Oct. 3-8): CCC upends Jesuit in rivalry game

Man oh man. When we say there was some craziness that went on between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties in Week 7, we mean it. Upsets between both counties, high scoring, low scoring and everything in-between.

Coming back to two nights of of high school football, with Monday and Friday night action taking place, teams from the respective counties were ready and raring to go after practices were able to taking place on Saturday/Sunday (per the FHSAA granting those days).

Amongst the games that really stood out from last week was East Lake’s wild come-from-behind victory over Steinbrenner. It was just four days later that same Warriors team pulled off a stunner and defeated Armwood 22-14. Making anything make sense would have to be a story all in itself.

The big Friday tilt was the rivalry game between Clearwater Central Catholic and Jesuit. Not wanting to be overlooked whatsoever, the Marauders have made sure they are the talk of the Tampa Bay Area. Chris Harvey’s CCC group defeated the 2021 Class 6A state champions 23-21 on the road.

Another big win for a Pinellas County team on Friday was when Cory Moore and the Lakewood Spartans went down to Miami and defeated Southridge 28-22. A huge win for the Spartans after losing games earlier in the season to Palm Beach Central and Homestead.

Clearwater’s defense has come alive this past week with a 41-0 shutout win over Dunedin and 9-6 victory over Pinellas Park. Another team from Clearwater in Clearwater Academy International went up to Madison County and routed the Cowboys 39-20. 

Tampa Bay Tech looked like championship form with a combined score of 103-0 over Freedom and Hillsborough, respectively. Plant continued its winning ways and took control of the district with a win over Strawberry Crest and a non-district victory getting by Jefferson.
