Five Southwest Florida teams win district titles in Week 10

It was a championship winning weekend for five football teams in Southwest Florida, all of whom clinched district titles. Here is a recap of the action:

Gulf Coast 27, Immokalee 21 (OT): The Sharks survived Immokalee's near comeback to win the Class 4A-District 16 title. Gulf Coast (7-2) won its first district championship since 2016 and also tied the school record for wins in a season.

The Sharks were up 21-7 before Immokalee forced overtime. The Indians got the ball first in overtime but couldn't find the end zone after a series of penalties. On Gulf Coast's possession, Konner Barrett threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Miller to win the title.

A.J. Lubin rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown for the Sharks. Immokalee quarterback Trannon Villareal threw for 236 yards and three scores.

Lehigh 35, Riverdale 0: Thanks to a win and a loss by Ida Baker, Lehigh secured the 4S-District 15 title. Sophomore quarterback Dorian Mallary threw for 166 yards and ran for 74 yards plus two touchdowns.

After a scoreless first quarter, Lehigh scored on three straight possessions in the third quarter to take command. Lightning star running back Richard Young, an Alabama recruit, went over 100 yards and scored three times. Lehigh's defense held Riverdale under 100 yards.

First Baptist 42, Community School 0: This rivalry game was close early before FBA scored 21 points in the second quarter to go up four touchdowns at halftime. With the win, the Lions (5-2) claim the 1S-District 8 title.

Sophomore quarterback Ethan Crossan had 210 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Clemson commit Olsen Patt Henry had 6 receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Sam Sparacio rushed for 68 yards and a score and also had a receiving touchdown.

Evangelical Christian 57, Southwest Florida Christian 14: The Sentinels earn the 1S-District 7 championship with a dominant performance. ECS (7-0) also is the only undefeated team left in Southwest Florida after a loss by Estero (7-1).

In a match-up of two of the area's best quarterbacks, Tanner Helton was exquisite for ECS. The junior completed 18 of 22 passes for 331 yards and five touchdowns. SFCA's Eli Moore threw two touchdown passes. Sentinels junior L.J. Blackwell rushed for 187 yards to go over 1,000 for the season.

North Fort Myers 37, Island Coast 7: The Red Knights exploded for 30 points in the second quarter after a scoreless first period. And thanks to a loss by Cape Coral, North Fort Myers secured the 3S-District 14 championship.

Florida A&M recruit Bo Summersett carried the ball 21 times for 197 yards and three touchdowns. North Fort Myers (5-1) had 341 rushing yards as a team. The Knights' defense held Island Coast to just 24 yards.

Bishop Verot 57, Estero 10: Freshman Deshon Jenkins rushed for 152 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Vikings to victory. Jenkins scored three times in the first quarter. Bishop Verot scored on its first five drives to go up 36-0 midway through the second quarter.

Bishop Verot can win the Class 2S-District 16 title with a win at Key West this week. It would be the Vikings first district championship in 31 years.

Fort Myers 40, Cypress Lake 0: The Green Wave (6-2) won their sixth straight game after starting the year 0-2 and set up a 3S-District 15 title game against Dunbar next week. Fort Myers defense remained dominant. The Wave have allowed just six points the past three weeks.
Fort Myers QB Chris McFoley had 205 yards on just seven completions. That includes a 55-yard score to La'ern Bonelli and an 85-yard TD to Alex Thelusma. Running back Ricardo Noel scored twice.

Dunbar 39, South Fort Myers 12: The Tigers remained undefeated in 3S-District 15. They close the regular season at Fort Myers next week, and the winner will be crowned district champ.

Senior QB Landon Winterbottom was 9-of-16 passing for 148 yards and two touchdowns. David Perkins ran for 93 yards and two scores as Dunbar (6-1) had 174 yards on the ground.

Naples 49, Bonita Springs 7: The Golden Eagles starters played just one half in Naples' regular season finale. Kendrick Raphael, who recently decommitted from Iowa, rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns on just three carries. Freshman Ty Collins, in his first varsity action, ran for 99 yards and a touchdown.

Charlotte 21, Ida Baker 3: The Tarpons (1-7) got their first win of the season and ended a losing streak longer than anyone at Charlotte can remember. Connor Trim led the Tarpons' attack with 111 yards and two touchdowns.

Lely 19, Golden Gate 16: The Trojans continue to make a push toward an at-large playoff berth, winning for the fourth time in five games after starting the season 0-3. Lely (4-4) rushed for 275 yards, all of it from Guerschom Guerrier (27 carries, 135 yards) and quarterback Jakeem Tanelus (140 yards, 2 touchdowns).

Mariner 19, Cape Coral 12: Mariner led just 3-0 at the half but got two passing touchdowns late to seal the win. Quarterback Cameron Bennett threw for 117 yards and a touchdown for Mariner. Justin Lewis had 42 receiving yards and even threw a touchdown pass.

Barron Collier 33, East Lee 0: The Cougars (6-2) got back on track after a stunning 40-0 loss to Lely last week. Barron Collier had 184 yards rushing and 201 passing. Jackson Polly ran for 76 yards and two TDs, while Bryan Daniels had 75 yards and one score. Cougars QB Tommy Mooncotch threw for a touchdown.
