Jack Schulte nets four goals to propel St. Andrew's lax

Air Force commit now has 10 scores this season for the defending state champs

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA - Senior attackman Jack Schulte scored four of St. Andrew’s six first period goals to propel the Scots to a 12-4 victory over Oxbridge Academy. The Air Force commit tallied his first goal with 7:50 remaining in the 1st quarter on an assist from freshman attackman/midfielder Nick Testa. His next three goals would all come within the next two minutes and 23 seconds of the period.

Senior Jack Schulte, after scoring 60 goals last season in St. Andrew's state championship run, already has 10 this year after scoring four in Thursday's 12-3 win over Oxford.

Led by Schulte, the Scots would control the time of possession and stay in Oxbridge Academy’s offensive zone for much of the first 12 minutes. St. Andrew’s would also receive goals from freshman Shovan Eriksson with 4:56 remaining and freshman Cole Denton with under a minute remaining in the period.

“Pretty good, but not really satisfied with everything offensively,” said St. Andrew’s head coach Tony Seaman. “We had a lot of turnovers unforced. We shot the ball pretty well in the middle of the first and second quarter. Then we just played a lot of defense in the second half. I thought we played well. Oxbridge is always good and well coached. We handled it. We know this is a big week with three games. We tried to save some people for the next two days.”

Schulte came into the night leading the Scots in goals (6) while placing second in assists (4). His 60-goal, 53-assist campaign as a junior helped the Scots win their second consecutive state championship.

“Jack is a wonderful player,” added Seaman, who once led Division I programs at both Johns Hopkins University and Towson University in Maryland. “He is smart. He’s in the weight room and out here all the time. He just does everything we want him to do. He has the ball for us a lot and controls it. He will be a great player at Air Force. There’s no doubt about that. I’m looking forward to that. He is a team leader on offense for sure. The ball goes through him.”

Trailing 6-0, the Thunderwolves would get on the board on the man advantage on a goal by junior attackman Christopher Lawrence with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter. The junior would also score all three of the Thunderwolves’ goals in the second half.

With St. Andrew’s providing much of the first half pressure, it was a busy night in net for Koury Dowd. The sophomore goalie made some key early saves on point-blank shots in the middle of the offensive zone through 12 minutes. Dowd would finish with 19 saves on the evening.

The Thunderwolves would pick up a pair of goals in the third and fourth periods by Lawrence before the Scots would answer with four straight of their own. St. Andrew’s second half goals would come from senior Jack Ewan, junior Jackson Parke, junior Connor Hofbauer, and freshman Cole Denton.

“That was our plan to just come out firing,” said Schulte. “We have been working hard all season long. I don’t think we have ever beaten Oxbridge like this, especially in my four years here. It was great to beat them like that and just come out hot early on.”

St. Andrew’s remains a perfect 7-0 with the win while Oxbridge Academy falls to 5-4.
