Power 25 Baseball

Find the complete breakdown of the SBLive Sports Florida Baseball Power 25:

1. Marjory Stoneman Douglas (29-0): Coming off winning a Class 7A state championship last season with a 30-2 record, the Eagles made it back-to-back this spring. The Eagles defeated Plant 10-0 in five innings for the 7A state title game. Majory Stoneman Douglas out-scored the opposition 248-33 this season.

2. IMG Academy (25-0): Second in our rankings is the second-best pitching arguably in the state over in Bradenton. The Ascenders feature left-hander Cam Johnson, who is committed to LSU. Jaewoo Cho (Arkansas) and Noah Franco (Mississippi State) join Johnson to form a formidable pitching staff second to none. The Ascenders knocked off Remington Christian Academy 15-5 in the regular season finale.

3. Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) (28-4): The top pitching staff in the land on the high school baseball circuit resides over Pinellas County. Calvary Christian features Landen Maroudis (NC State signee), left-gander Hunter Dietz (USF signee) and Liam Peterson, who’s headed to Florida. The trio helped lead the Warriors to the Class 3A state championship, defeating North Broward Prep 9-3.

4. Sickles (30-2): Manager Eric Luksis brought back a very talented roster, which includes Florida signee Hayden Yost along with UCF signee Caden McDonald and Yost’s younger brother, Jordan (Florida commit). Sickles won its final 22 games en route to winning the Class 6A state title over Viera.

5. Plantation American Heritage (21-6): Since losing to Doral Academy back on April 20th, the Patriots went on a roll the rest of the way. The Patriots won eight straight games en route to claiming the Class 5A state championship.

6. Jesuit (27-5): Jesuit narrowly fell to No. 1 IMG Academy in the final weeks of the season. The Tigers were looking to win back-to-back state championships in Class 5A, but fell to Plantation American Heritage 8-5 in extra innings.

7. North Broward Prep (27-5): The Eagles headed into the postseason having won 14 straight and nearly pulled off winning it all. North Broward Prep reached the Class 3A state title game, losing 9-3 to Clearwater Calvary Christian.

8. Montverde Academy (25-4): Montverde Academy, coming off an 18-7 campaign in 2022, is led by a stout pitching staff that consists of USF signee Logan Bevis and Stetson signee Matthew Heyl. The Eagles eventually fell to North Broward Prep in the Class 3A playoffs.

9. North Marion (22-5): Of the five losses the Colts have had this season, two of them have come against Buchholz. North Marion shutout The Villages 12-0 to win the Class 4A, District 5 title. The Colts completed their dream season by capping it with the Class 4A state title, the first-ever in program history.

10. Viera (24-6): Getting past the a red hot Sickles team in the Class 6A state championship game was a tough task for the Hawks as they fell 4-2. It was a big step up from last season as the team this time around made a run to the finals.

11. Doral Academy (24-7): The defending Class 6A state champions fell just short of getting back to title game once again. Doral Academy ended up losing to Viera 3-0 in the state semifinal round.

12. Archbishop McCarthy (24-6): The Mavericks gathered some national attention from the early part of the season, starting 11-0. Archbishop McCarthy ended up bowing out of the Class 5A playoffs in a 4-3 loss to the eventual state champion Plantation American Heritage Patriots

13. Providence School (25-5): The Stallions pushed Clearwater Calvary Christian to the brink in the Class 3A playoffs. Providence fell narrowly 5-4 to Clearwater Calvary Christian, giving the Warriors one of their toughest tests of the postseason.

14. Lakeland Christian (25-5): Nine straight wins to end the season en route to winning the Class 2A state championship game in a 5-2 victory over St. Johns Country Day. Polk County's best baseball team proved that the regular season prepared this team for a deep run through the postseason.

15. Sebring (24-7): The Blue Streaks reached the Class 5A state semifinals and fell 3-1 in a tight contest against Jesuit. The pride of Highlands County made a nice run to states unexpectedly and proved they're a contender heading into next season.

16. St. Johns Country Day (26-5): The Spartans may not have been high up on the radar when it came to our Power 25, but they certainly made sure to make it count during the postseason. St. Johns Country Day just fell short of winning the Class 2A crown in a loss to Lakeland Christian.

17. Gulliver Prep (19-11): Though the Raiders had some losses on the season, their performance in the Class 3A state semifinals proved this team belongs in our Power 25. Gulliver Prep gave North Broward Prep everything they could handle in the state semifinals before losing 5-4.

18. Bishop Kenny (19-11): Losing in the Class 4A state championship game 5-0 to North Marion is something the Crusaders shouldn't hang their heads low on. The Crusaders made a stellar run through the postseason behind timely hitting, solid pitching along the way.

19. Winter Springs (19-10-1): The Bears made believers out of everyone. Not many expected this team to roll through Class 6A the way they did, but a region quarterfinal win over Pace started the chain reaction. Winter Springs ended up reaching the 6A state semifinals.

20. Pace (24-7): The Patriots got to the Class 6A state championship game last year before falling to Hagerty. This time around, the Patriots couldn't get out of the regional quarterfinals and lost to Winter Springs.

21. Spruce Creek (20-11): It's arguable to say the Hawks may have given Majory Stoneman Douglas one of its toughest games of the entire playoffs in the state semifinals in Class 7A.

22. Plant (21-8): The Panthers were a solid Hillsborough County club all season long and with solid pitching reached the Class 7A title game against a loaded Majory Stoneman Douglas group. This Plant team got hot at the right time and land in our final Power 25.

23. Park Vista (22-4-1): The Cobras recorded seven shutout victories this season and their four losses have been to Majory Stoneman Douglas, Dwyer, Plant and Palm Beach Central. Park Vista reached the Class 7A state semifinals.

24. Jefferson (20-8): It's no coincidence the Dragons and Panthers are so close together in these rankings as the two Tampa-area teams played each other close in the regular season. Jefferson made a strong run in Class 4A, losing in the state semis to Bishop Kenny.

25. Chipley (22-7): The Tigers had to tough out an 8-inning state semifinal against Newberry, winning 1-0, to reach the Class 1A state championship and win in a rout. Chipley defeated Lafayette 10-1 to claim the school's first-ever state crown in baseball.
