SBLive's 2023 all-state Florida girls flag football team: 12 different schools represented between offense, defense

The 2023 high school girls flag football season was filled with tremendous moments and spectacular performances on both an individual and team level in the Sunshine State.

Some players built off their dominant seasons from the year before and made the list in back-to-back seasons while others had true breakout years making a name for themselves.

Here is SBLive's all-classification, all-state girls flag football team in the state of Florida for the spring of 2023. 

Our guiding criteria:

1. Individual performance and accolades.

2. Success of team held considerable weight in selections.

3. A player was only eligible at one position.

SBLIVE’S 2023 ALL-STATE GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL TEAMS

ALL-STATE FIRST TEAM OFFENSE

Quarterback: Mieke Rowe, Alonso, Sr. (2A) 

When it came down to efficiency, stats and clutch gene, Rowe had it all for Alonso. The senior signal caller was tremendous all season long, throwing for 5,016 yards, 95 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions and completed 74 percent of her passes. Also led the Ravens to the Class 2A state championship. 

Athlete: Nichelle Brown, Bradford, So. (1A)

The Tornadoes had a stellar season and Brown was a big reason for it. She also will be a big piece of the puzzle moving forward for the next two seasons in Starke. Brown had 1,969 yards receiving, 909 on the ground and 49 total touchdowns. 

Running back: Calin Jerry, Winter Park, Sr. (2A) 

Jerry finished her senior campaign out with a bang as the Wildcats’ go-to-tailback. The senior running back rushed for 1,247 yards on 97 attempts and scored 14 touchdowns. 

Wide receiver: Katejion Robinson, Robinson, Sr. (1A) 

One of the most explosive receivers in the state had a phenomenal senior campaign that ended with a state title in hand. Robinson caught 103 passes for 1,514 yards and scored 32 touchdowns for the Class 1A state champions. 

Wide receiver: Tremesha Harris, Ed White, Sr. (1A) 

Not many players out of Duval could make plays through the passing game like Harris. The senior wide receiver was the 904’s top wideout, catching 97 passes for 1,497 yards and 25 scores. 

Wide receiver: Makenna Sturgis, Alonso, So. (2A) 

Doubling up and playing softball at Alonso as well, Sturgis was one of the most dependable wide receivers in the state. Sturgis caught 73 passes for 1,300 yards and 34 touchdowns. 

Wide receiver: Manasvi Vijayaraghavan, Robinson, Jr. (1A) 

The other wide receiver opposite of Robinson was Vijayaraghavan and she helped give the Knights the top 1-2 duo in the state. The junior wideout hauled in 94 passes for 1,182 yards and 26 touchdowns. 

Utility: Emma Corr, New Smyrna Beach, So. (2A) 

When it comes to passing and throwing, Corr was a true dual-threat for the Barracudas. The sophomore signal caller threw for 1,616 yards and 11 touchdowns and led the state in rushing with 1,787 and 10 scores. Corr also had 103 flag pulls on defense. 

ALL-STATE FIRST TEAM DEFENSE

Rusher: Camille Candidate, Miami Edison, So. (2A) 

When it came down to getting to the quarterback, no one was better at it than Candidate. The sophomore racked up 61 sacks (73 yards lost) along with 140 flag pulls. 

Linebacker: Eryn Klaus, Alonso, Sr. (2A) 

The Class 2A state champions were known all about their offense, but they had a pretty solid defense as well. Klaus had a sensational senior season for the Ravens, compiling 131 flag pulls, a sack and five interceptions. Klaus was also a key receiver for Alonso with 1,004 yards on 90 catches. 

Linebacker: Shanty Sloss, Port Orange Atlantic, So. (1A) 

Looking at the amount of games played compared to others on the list of top flag pullers, Sloss’ average topped everyone in the state. Sloss averaged 10.3 pulls a game, 123 for the season along with two sacks. The sophomore also contributed on offense with 573 rushing yards, five touchdowns. 

Linebacker: Ausunti Herring, Chiles, Sr. (2A)  

A four-year varsity player for the Timberwolves, Herring saved her best season for last. The senior linebacker was crucial in Chiles’ 15-3 campaign as she compiled 130 flag pulls and intercepted two passes through 17 contests. 

Defensive back: Brasia Carter, Tarpon Springs, Sr. (1A) 

In Carter’s senior season for the Spongers, she made a high spash on the defensive side of the ball. The senior notched 18 interceptions, deflected 10 passes and had 62 flag pulls. 

Defensive back: Ashten Dickerson, Pace, Sr. (2A) 

Helping Pace reach the Class 2A region semifinals, Dickerson’s play at defensive back made the Patriots one of the top teams on the Panhandle. The senior deflected 20 passes, picked off 18 and had 73 flag pulls in 20 games played. 

Athlete: Liani Gill, Oxbridge Academy, So. (1A) 

As just a sophomore linebacker/rusher, Gill was all over the place defensively for Oxbridge Academy. Gill tallied 162 flag pulls, 34 sacks and picked off a pass. Also was a contributor on offense with 629 receiving yards and 418 on the ground. 

Utility: Arnayshia Griffin, Bradford, Fr. (1A)

No one in the Sunshine State had more interceptions than the freshman defensive back. In her first season of flag football on varsity, Griffin stood out amongst the rest and picked off 23 passes and as the team’s quarterback threw for 3,511 yards and rushed for over 1,000.
