Spanish River’s Giselle Portanova is voted SBLive Florida Athlete of the Week

Here's a look at Portanova’s stellar performance

Congratulations to Giselle Portanova, the winner of SBLive Florida's Athlete of Week award as voted by Florida high school sports fans.

Portanova, a pitcher for Spanish River, earned 67.67% of the 2,388 votes in a state-wide poll. Portanova scattered six hits, while striking out five, to pick up the complete-game victory over Plant for the Class 7A state championship.

Here are all the other athletes that were nominated for May 22nd-May 27th:

Niko Boyce, Barron Collier, Football: The Naples transfer had quite the debut for the Cougars. Boyce completed 16-of-22 passes for 190 yards, two touchdowns. Also added nine carries for 46 yards, two touchdowns against Southridge.

Anthony Barbar, Westminster Academy, Football: Barbar looked great in his outing against Somerset Academy Key as the signal caller completed 12-of-15 for 203 yards and three touchdowns.

Wells Bettenhausen, Walton, Football:In a 28-21 win over South Walton, Bettenhausen showed out in just two quarters. The quarterback went 14-of-20 for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

Cayden Thomas, Mitchell, Football: The rising sophomore put on a show against Hudson in a 46-34 win. Thomas finished the game completing 9-of-16 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 86 yards, four touchdowns. 

Spencer Butt, Plantation American Heritage, Baseball: Butt drove in four runs on two hits with one being a home run and scoring twice himself, leading the Patriots to an 8-5 win over Jesuit for the Class 5A state title. 

Cameron Guise, Sickles, Baseball: The junior pitcher pitched five solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six to lead Sickles past Viera en route to the Class 6A state title.

Jayden Dubanewicz, Majory Stoneman Douglas, Baseball: Dubanewicz went five innings, allowed one hit in the shutout victory over the Plant Panthers and leading the Eagles to the Class 7A state championship.

Destiny Driskell, Bartow, Softball:Driskell helped the Yellow Jackets reach the Class 6A state championship with her clutch hitting as she drove in the go-ahead run in the 3-2 state semifinal win over Doral Academy. 

Jayden Heavener, Pace, Softball: One of the state's top softball pitchers was on full display in the Class 6A state semifinal against Land O' Lakes. In a 3-0 win, Heavener fanned 17 and allowed one hit in the win.

Isabella Vega, Parrish Community, Softball: The University of Central Florida commitment had one of her best overall performances of the entire season. The senior hurler pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit en route to leading the Bulls to their first state championship.

Anna Conroy, Lake Wales, Softball: Conroy pitched a complete game gem, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five batters in leading the Highlanders to the Class 4A title over Wakulla.

Morgen Talley, Clearwater Calvary Christian, Softball: Talley certainly saved her best for last. Talley pitched a complete game, yielding just four hits and striking out 10 in leading Calvary Christian past Somerset Charter Silver Palms for the Class 3A state crown.
