26 days until Florida high school football season: One number for each day as we count down to kickoff 2023

SBLive Florida gives you one significant number per day as we mark the days until high school football returns.

The Florida high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 24 — 26 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Florida will give you one significant number per day.

26

Back in 1997, it would be a first when it came to winning state championships for multiple schools. Unknowingly at the time, it would remain their only state titles to this very day.

Chiefland and Taylor County both claimed state championship victories 26 years ago, but which both programs look back on the year as the best in school history.

The Indians soundly defeated the Lafayette Hornets 49-28 for the Class 2A state championship at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. Chiefland is coming off a solid campaign in Class 1R and will be a contender for a state crown this fall.

For the Bulldogs, it was a 14-6 win over Clewiston for the Class 3A state title. Taylor County is coming off an up and down 4-6 campaign in which they competed well against teams like Blountstown, Maclay and Wakulla.
