Vote Now: Who should be SBLive’s Central Florida Offensive Player of the Year for 2023?

They showed leadership, scored touchdowns and were game changers. In short, they were the stars of Central Florida offenses.

We looked at teams from Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard, and Indian River counties and nominated 22 athletes for the 2023 SBLive Central Florida Offensive Football Player of the Year. We examined statistics, leadership ability, how successful they were in the regular season, and how far they took their team in the postseason in determining the candidates.

We ask you, the fan, to decide who should be 2023 Central Florida Offensive Player of the Year. Voting will conclude on December 31st at 11:59 p.m.

Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. The poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominations:

Jayvan Boggs, WR, Cocoa: The Ohio State commit has been a dynamo for the defending Class 2 Suburban state champs. Through 13 games, the junior has caught a whopping 79 passes for 1,304 yards and 21 touchdowns in leading the Tigers to a 12-1 record and the state semifinals.

Tay Welch, ATH, Eau Gallie (Melbourne): Ultra-talented junior rushed for 1,353 yards and 11 TDs, and caught 11 passes for 142 yards and two scores in leading the Commodores to their first-ever district championship, the Class 3S regional semifinals and a 10-2 record. He has an offer from Liberty University.

Brian Oesterle, FS/RB, Melbourne Central Catholic: Senior barreled for close to 1,000 yards rushing and eight TDs, and caught seven passes for 99 yards and one TD to lead the Hustlers to the Class 1S, District 4 championship and a regional playoff berth. He has an offer from Hendrix College in Arkansas.

Javon Ross, WR/DB, DeLand: Senior do-it-all star ran for 935 yards and 17 TDs, caught 35 passes for 615 yards and eight scores, and had 405 yards in kickoff returns and 68 yards in punt returns for more than 2,000 total yards through 12 games in leading the Bulldogs (11-2) to the Class 4S, District 9 title and a state semifinals berth. He has an offer from Albany (Ga.) State.

DJ Murray, QB, Mainland (Daytona Beach): Senior transfer from Flagler Palm Coast has been terrific for the defending Class 3S state runner-up, leading the Bucs (12-1) back to the state semifinals. He has passed for 1,199 yards and 14 TDs, and rushed for 627 yards and nine scores through 12 games. He has 11 offers.

Karl Nelson, QB, Halifax Academy (Daytona Beach): Sophomore led the Knights to a historic season by passing for 1,098 yards and 11 TDs and rushing for 345 yards and three scores to lead the Knights to a Class 1S playoff berth and 7-3 record.

Dereon Coleman, QB, Jones (Orlando): Sophomore first-year starter split time with senior transfer Trever Jackson and passed for 1,718 yards and 13 TDs, and rushed for 176 yards and four TDs through 12 games to lead the Tigers (10-3) back to the Class 3M state semifinals.

Bjorn Jorgensen, QB, Bishop Moore (Orlando): Junior had a stellar year for the Hornets, passing for 2,466 yards and 29 TDs, and rushing for 632 yards and 12 TDs. His efforts helped Bishop Moore (9-4) win the Class 2M, District 4 title and advance to the regional finals. He has been invited to the National Combine in San Antonio, Texas, in January.

Akeevin Anderson, OLB/RB/KR, Orlando Christian Prep: Star sophomore ran for 786 yards and nine TDs, caught 23 passes for 316 yards and six scores, and had 126 yards in return yards in 11 games to lead the Warriors (10-2) to the Class 1M, District 2 title and the regional finals.

JT Bronaugh, RB/FS/WR, Foundation Academy (Winter Garden): One of Orange County’s most versatile players, the senior rushed for 1,629 yards and 19 TDs, and caught 11 passes for 251 yards and five TDs to lead the Lions to a 7-3 record. Named FHSAA Class 1M District Player of the Year, he has 11 offers.

Trey Clark, RB, Seminole: Senior enjoyed a superb season with 1,090 yards rushing and eight TDs, and 126 yards receiving in leading the Seminoles (10-3) to the Class 4M, District 2 title and a regional finals berth. He has an offer from Stetson.

Noah Grubbs, QB, Lake Mary: Star sophomore, who has 16 D-1 offers, had a spectacular season with 3,670 yards passing and 49 TDs, and eight yards rushing and four TDs, helping power the Rams to a 10-2 record and the Class 4M, Region 1 semifinals.

Jackson Stecher, QB, The Master’s Academy: Eighth-grader came into his own as starter and led the Eagles to a 9-2 record and the Sunshine State Athletic Association state championship. He finished with 1,353 yards passing and 15 TDs, and 309 yards rushing.

Dane Thompkins, RB, Lake Minneola: Junior turned in a fine season with 1,490 yards rushing and 22 TDs, and 127 yards receiving and one TD in 11 games to lead the Hawks (9-4) to the Class 4S, District 5 title and a regional finals berth. He made the FACA ( Florida Athletic Coaches Association) District 8 First Team.

Troy Saladin, QB, Eustis: Senior played magnificently with 2,014 yards passing and 29 TDs, and 203 yards rushing and four TDs, to lead the Panthers to the Class 2S, District 10 championship and a 7-4 record. He has been selected to represent Lake County in the Cure All-Star Bowl between Lake and Osceola counties.

Taylor Cline, QB/WR/FS, Mount Dora Christian: Senior led the Bulldogs to the Sunshine State Athletic Association Class 5A state championship, rushing for 612 yards and 10 TDs, and catching 19 passes for 373 yards and five TDs.

Sabby Meassick, QB, Tohopekaliga (Kissimmee): Star sophomore was one of the nation’s top passers, throwing for 3,843 yards and 39 TDs and rushing for 61 yards and one score in leading the Tigers to a 6-5 record and a bowl victory against Lake Howell (Winter Park). He has multiple offers, but is reportedly leaning toward Wake Forest.

Logan King, QB, St. Cloud: Junior passed for 2,115 yards and 24 TDs, and rushed for 10 yards and a score to lead the Bulldogs to an 8-3 record.

Ernest Nunn, WR/CB, Poinciana (Kissimmee): Junior caught 49 passes for 917 yards and eight TDs, ran for 144 yards, and had 288 total return yards to lead the Eagles.

Tyler Aronson, QB, Vero Beach: The SMU commit had a memorable senior season with 2,077 yards passing and 23 TDs, and 234 yards rushing and four TDs in leading the Indians to a Class 4S playoff berth and a 9-3 record.

Buddha James, RB/OLB, Sebastian River: Junior ran for 850 yards and eight TDs, and caught eight passes for 82 yards and a score, to lead the Sharks to a 6-4 record and the Sunshine State Athletic Association Atlantic Division title.

Jackson LaTour, QB, Oviedo: Senior had a superb season with 2,864 yards passing and 36 TDs, and 145 yards rushing and 4 TDs for more than 3,000 total yards and 40 TDs to lead the Lions to the Class 3M playoffs and an 8-3 record.
