Vote: Who is the Tampa Bay Baseball Player of the Week (3/6/2024)?
The Florida High School Baseball season is in full swing and we begin our Player of the Week polls for areas all around the state. Teams have started off the regular season with some great individual performances.
As such, we have 10 athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Tampa Bay Florida high school baseball player of the week award from February 26-March 2, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, March 10th at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll.
Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.
Here are the nominees:
Matt Altman, Bishop McLaughlin: The sophomore pitcher pitched two strong innings and kept Hernando Christian Academy off the board in a 5-2 win. Altman fanned five of the six batters he faced.
Kamren Kimble, Lakewood: Kimble, just a freshman, was stellar in the Spartans’ 11-1 win over Admiral Farragut. The freshman went nearly five innings, allowed one hit, one run and struck out nine.
Haydin Short, Boca Ciega: The junior was perfect in the Pirates’ 14-8 victory last week, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs, two doubles and a triple.
Connor Sutton, Wiregrass Ranch: The junior pitcher was sensational in the Bulls’ win 8-4 over Shorecrest Prep. Sutton went nearly five innings, one hit and six strikeouts.
Noah Berning, Bell Creek Academy: The senior hurler went five strong innings, allowed four hits, one run and struck out eight in a 11-1 win over Sarasota Christian.
Justis Meadows, Wharton: The Wildcats’ standout had himself a nice night at the plate in a 15-1 win over Tampa Bay Tech. Meadows had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs.
Davis Weppler, Tarpon Springs: In a 9-0 shutout win over Gulf, Weppler went three innings, allowed one hit and struck out seven.
Jackson Cucchi, Plant: The freshman went yard not once, but twice in the Panthers’ 13-2 win over Blake. Cucchi belted two home runs and drove in five runs.
Evan Mazur, Carrollwood Day: The junior pitcher had a good night on the mound for the Patriots, going four innings, allowing three hits, no runs and striking out four.
Billy Bosser, Palm Harbor University: Bosser was dealing in the Hurricanes’ 11-0 win over Clearwater, striking out five in four innings of work.
