Vote: Who is the Polk County Softball Player of the Week (3/12/2024)?
The Florida High School Softball season is in full swing and we begin our Player of the Week polls for areas all around the state. Teams have started off the regular season with some great individual performances.
As such, we have eight athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Polk County high school softball player of the week award from March 4-March 9, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, March 17th at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll.
Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.
Here are the nominees:
McKenna Gravitt, Lakeland Christian: The senior led the Vikings to a 19-0 win over Santa Fe Catholic, hitting two home runs and four RBIs.
Belle Mancillas, Frostproof: The senior pitcher came in and went four innings, allowed one hit and struck out 10 in a 6-5 win over Moore Haven.
Kenya Faulk, Fort Meade: Faulk helped account for six runs in the Miners’ 20-0 win over Ridge Community, driving in three runs and scoring three herself.
Jazlyn Duque, George Jenkins: The sophomore pitcher went seven innings, fanned nine batters and allowed just four hits in a 6-2 win over Mulberry.
Anna Conroy, Lake Wales: The junior pitcher went six innings, allowed one hit and striking out eight in a 2-0 win over Auburndale.
Makenna Meadows, Lake Region: Meadows was on her game in a 6-1 win over McKeel Academy. The junior went nearly six innings, one hit and struck out 12 batters.
Katelynn Oxley, Bartow: The University of Florida signee went three innings, allowed no hits and struck out nine in a 10-0 win over George Jenkins.
Alexis Martin, All Saints’ Academy: The senior’s bat helped lift the Saints over Haines City, driving in three runs and notched a triple.
