Vote now: Who should be Scorebook Live's Southern California football player of the week?

There were several impressive performances last week in Southern California high school football.

Here are the candidates for the Scorebook Live Southern California football player of the week for Sept. 2-8, as nominated by fans, readers and Scorebook Live’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Players from the Southern, LA City and San Diego Sections are considered. Voting will conclude on Thursday at 11:59 p.m and the winner will be announced Friday morning. Tyler Buchner, Bishop's QB, junior: Buchner, a Notre Dame commit, posted one of the best performances in San Diego high school football history, throwing for 465 yards and 5 touchdowns while also running for 295 yards and 4 more TDs in Bishop's 71-42 victory over Mater Dei Catholic on Saturday. His 760 all-purpose yards are second all-time in California state history.

Doug Brumfield, Serra (Gardena) QB, senior: Brumfield, a UNLV commit, finished with 159 yards passing and 128 yards rushing in Serra's 26-20 double-overtime win over Calabasas on Friday. He was responsible for all three of Serra’s touchdowns, including the game-winning pass to LV Bunkley in double overtime.

Bryce Young, Mater Dei QB, senior: Young, a USC commit, was 31-for-38 for 528 yards and seven touchdowns as the Monarchs routed Centennial (Arizona) 71-21 on Friday.

Zavien Watson, Cathedral Catholic RB, senior: Watson, an Arizona baseball commit, rushed for 148 yards on 28 carries to help lead Cathedral Catholic to a 44-41 upset of Corona Centennial on Friday.

Josh Ward, San Pedro RB, senior: Ward did a little bit of everything in San Pedro's 77-7 victory over Taft on Friday. Ward scored five touchdowns -- three on offense and two on defense. The tally: three rushing touchdowns, an 15-yard interception return for a TD and a 98-yard kickoff return TD.

Julien Stokes, Grace Brethren ATH, junior: Stokes rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns to help lead Grace Brethren to a 38-18 victory over Muir on Friday.

Zachary Siskowic, Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) QB, sophomore: Making his first career start at the varsity level, Siskowic showed a steady hand by throwing for 294 yards and three touchdowns -- as well as a rushing TD -- in Notre Dame's 42-0 win over Moorpark on Friday.

Fernando Chairez, Norco RB, junior: Chairez had the game of his life on Friday, rushing for 138 yards and five touchdowns while also catching a TD pass in Norco's 59-44 victory over Rancho Cucamonga.

Christopher Parker, San Fernando DB, senior: Parker returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in San Fernando's 37-7 win over Franklin on Friday.
