Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the CIF has pushed back the California high school football season to January. Most sections are now scheduled to start practice in December and play games starting in early January.

As teams across the state finalize their 2020-21 football schedules, SBLive will take a closer look at the schedules and best matchups for California’s top programs.

Here’s an inside look at Chaminade’s 2021 schedule:

CHAMINADE 2020-21 VARSITY FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

  • Week 1 – Away vs. Oaks Christian – 1/8
  • Week 2 – Home vs. Birmingham – 1/15
  • Week 3 – Away vs. Crespi – 1/22
  • Week 4 – Home vs. Oxnard – 1/29
  • Week 5 – Away vs. Liberty (Bakersfield) – 2/5
  • Week 6 – Home vs. Serra Gardena – 2/12
  • Week 7 – Away vs. Notre Dame Sherman Oaks – 2/19
  • Week 8 – Home vs. Bishop Amat – 2/26
  • Week 9 – Away vs. Alemany- 3/5
  • Week 10 – Home vs. Cathedral 3/12

2019 RECORD: 8-6. Chaminade finished second in the Mission League before advancing all the way to the Southern Section Division 2 championship game where the Eagles fell to Sierra Canyon 35-7.

2021 SCHEDULE ANALYSIS: Look for Chaminade to start faster than they did a year ago when they lost their first two games against Oaks Christian and Paraclete. Last year's Eagles team was young and their inexperience showed early on.

This season, Chaminade will be competitive in every game they play. Quarterback Jaylen Henderson, a Fresno State commit, returns for his senior year. He'll have receivers Jordan McIntyre, Ian Duarte and Dominic Arango-Serna, a Canoga Park transfer, at his disposal in 2021. That's a dynamic receiving corps.

There are no, "Chaminade will definitely lose this one," games on the Eagles schedule in 2021. The Oaks Christian opener will tell Los Angeles high school football fans a lot about both teams.

CAN’T MISS CONTEST: Week 9 at Alemany. Last year's Alemany vs. Chaminade game was an overtime thriller with Alemany coming out on top 35-28.

Former Alemany QB Miller Moss was the hero in that game finishing with four touchdowns passes, including a last second TD toss to send the game to overtime. Moss is now at Mater Dei. There will have to be a new difference maker in this year's game.

TRAP GAME: Week 3 at Crespi. Chaminade waxed Crespi 50-28 a year ago, but the Celts have a new quarterback in Zach Siskowic, a transfer from Notre Dame Sherman Oaks. Siskowic led Notre Dame to the playoffs a year ago. He'll make Crespi much more formidable.

PREDICTION: 7-3
