Congratulations to Norco's Fernando Chairez and San Fernando's Christopher Parker for being voted our Southern California football players of the week!

Chairez, a junior running back, had the game of his life against Rancho Cucamonga on Sept. 6, rushing for 138 yards and five touchdowns while also catching a TD pass in Norco's 59-44 victory.

Parker, a senior defensive back, returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in San Fernando's 37-7 win over Franklin on Sept. 6.

Chairez and Parker each received 44% of the vote and were within a handful of total votes of each other. It was an impressive voting effort by both fan bases. If this were an election, we would have a run-off. Because it's high school sports we get to give out swag and awards to two great athletes!

Bishop's quarterback Tyler Buchner finished third in the voting and San Pedro running back Josh Ward finished fourth.

We are currently accepting athlete of the week nominations for the week of Sept. 9-15. If you would like to nominate an athlete, please email ben@wpsblivest.wpengine.com or tag us on Twitter or Instagram at @sbliveca.
