2A Arkansas high school football preview: Fordyce the team to beat
The 2020 Arkansas high school football season has arrived.
To kick off the season, SBLive is previewing the top teams in every class ahead of the first week of games. Here’s an inside look at Class 2A:
Top 2A team: Fordyce
Fordyce, last year's 2A champion, brings back 13 starters, including Ja'Quez Cross, who intercepted 10 passes last season on defense, and caught 58 passes for 975 yards and 14 touchdowns. Cross is committed to South Dakota State.
The Redbugs also return starting quarterback Jaheim Brown and OL/LB Josh Harrington. After going 13-2 a year ago, Fordyce is the favorite in 2A due to their wealth of returners.
Other 2A teams to watch
Look out for Gurdon, who returns 17 starters, and Junction City, who beat Fordyce a year ago. Foreman and Magnet Cove are also contenders.
