Here's a look at the 6A South Mississippi high school football semifinals:
Harrison Central (8-2) at Oak Grove (10-0)
Friday, Nov. 20, 7 p.m. - 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
If there aren't serious fireworks in this one, it'll be an upset.
Both Oak Grove and Harrison Central have explosive offenses, with the Warriors averaging 45.5 points a game through 10 games and the Red Rebels coming off a 49-point explosion in the first round against Pearl.
The Warriors are winning on the arm of junior quarterback Kabe Barnett, who has thrown for 32 touchdowns and just five interceptions all season. But Oak Grove is still a running team at heart — Barnett has handed off the ball on 59 percent of their plays, and six different ball carriers are averaging better than 5.5 yards a carry behind one of the state's best offensive lines.
Harrison Central counters with its own balanced offense that's led by sophomore quarterback Christian Turner, who is in the midst of a breakout season. Turner has thrown for 1,959 yards in 10 games — slightly more than Barnett (1,905) — with 26 touchdowns and just three interceptions. If Turner plays well and the two-headed rushing attack of Atavian Ray and Jaidon McClain can pace the offense, the Red Rebels should be able to keep pace if it turns into a track meet.
