SBLive’s Top 25 in Georgia high school baseball: Pope rises on big region win over previously unbeaten Allatoona

The Greyhounds leap back into the top 25 after building an 8-game win streak.

Buford remains locked in and undefeated at No. 1, but there's a new No. 2 after Allatoona suffered its first loss of the season.

Here are our all-classification rankings.

1. Buford: 20-0

Last week: 1

To the surprise of no one, Buford extended its win streak to 20 straight games after sweeping Central Gwinnett in its season series.

2. North Oconee: 20-1

Last week: 5

With a 20-2 win over Pikeville (Kentucky) and a 9-3 win over Buckeye Valley (Ohio), North Oconee extended its win streak to 17 games.

3. Mount Paran: 21-2

Last week: 4

Mount Paran took the season series against region opponent Darlington in a sweep.

4. Houston County: 16-4

Last week: 6

Houston County completed a three-game sweep of former No. 17 Valdosta, getting off to a hot start in region play.

5. Loganville: 17-4

Last week: 3

Loganville swept Johnson, scoring 36 runs in two games and allowing none. The Red Devils couldn't keep the streak going in a 5-3 loss to Parkview.

6. Allatoona: 20-1

Last week: 2

Allatoona went 2-1 over the week with a win over Buckeye Valley (Ohio) but lost its first game to region opponent Pope.

7. Parkview: 14-5

Last week: 9

Parkview has been on fire as of late with wins over Hoover (Alabama), Loganville and Marist.

8. Benedictine: 16-2

Last week: 7

Benedictine extended its win streak to 14 games after defeating Brantley County and Southeast Bulloch.

9. Etowah: 18-3

Last week: 8

Etowah took a 2-1 series win over region opponent Milton and also had a 13-0 victory over New Albany (Ohio).

10. Pace Academy: 14-3

Last week: 11

Pace Academy’s three-game win streak includes 60 runs scored and zero allowed.

11. Wesleyan: 15-3

Last week: 12

Wesleyan’s season sweep of Providence Christian improved its region record to 6-0, building its win streak to nine games.

12. Marist: 15-4

Last week: 10

Marist started the week off 3-0 with wins over LaGrange and Stephenson but then fell to Parkview.

13. Lassiter: 16-6

Last week: 14

Lassiter is starting to get in a groove, as it has won four games in a row — all against region opponents.

14. Cherokee: 17-5

Last week: 15

Cherokee has won 15 of its last 16 games including a sweep of Roswell and a 2-1 series win over Woodstock.

15. Lovett: 15-3

Last week: 16

Lovett improved its region record to 6-0 with wins over South Atlanta and Columbia.

16. Savannah Christian: 18-4

Last week: 13

Savannah Christian’s 10-game win streak was snapped at the hands of Effingham County.

17. Walton: 15-7

Last week: 18

Walton won its season series against North Cobb 2-1, and the one loss came by one run.

18. Woodstock: 14-6

Last week: 19

Woodstock swept Alpharetta and improved its region record to 6-3.

19. Pierce County: 15-1

Last week: 21

Pierce County’s 13-game win streak was snapped by Long County but the Bears had the last laugh, taking the 2-1 series win.

20. Cartersville: 13-4

Last week: 23

Cartersville took down Blessed Trinity twice to take the 2-1 series win and improve its region record to 6-1.

21. Denmark: 13-6

Last week: 25

Denmark went 3-0 last week with wins against region opponents Gainesville and South Forsyth.

22. Pope: 16-6

Last week: unranked

Pope has been on a tear and now finds its way back in the top 25. The Greyhounds are on an eight-game win streak with wins over Kell, Lassiter and most recently former No. 2 Allatoona.

23. South Effingham: 17-4

Last week: unranked

South Effingham is back in the top 25 after sweeping Bradwell Institute and Brunswick and defeating North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina) and May River (South Carolina)

24. South Paulding: 17-3

Last week: unranked

South Paulding is having another great season and is one of the hottest teams in the state. The Spartans have won seven in a row and nine of their last 10.

25. Pike County: 19-2

Last week: unranked

Pike County is looking to win its first championship since 2019, and those aspirations are looking realistic. The Pirates are on a nine-game win streak and have won 12 of their last 13 games.
