Georgia's top high school baseball players: Meet the state’s best third basemen

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look at some of the top baseball players in Georgia.

We started with the top catchers, then first basemen, second basemen and shortstops. Now we're on to the hot corner.

Note: Many high school baseball players excel at multiple positions. Don't be alarmed to see a starting shortstop or first baseman listed here as a third baseman, for example.

Kyzer Anthony, Sr., Metter

The 6-1, 175-pound senior is one of Southeast Georgia's best at the hot corner with a steady glove and consistent bat. Anthony is committed to play at the next level at Southeast Georgia State Community College.

Cade Brown, Soph., Parkview

Brown, the son of Panthers coach Chan Brown, got a taste of varsity ball as a freshman and contributed as a late-inning defensive replacement and pinch-hitter during the team's third straight Class 7A state title run. Now a 6-1, 175-pound sophomore, he is beginning to blossom this spring. While he got off to a rough start in the field, Brown is hitting .311 with a homer, 11 RBIs, 14 runs scored and an .835 OPS through the first 20 games.

Carson Bryan, Sr., Perry

The 6-2, 220-pound senior has been bashing the ball with regularity so far in 2022, leading all Panthers regulars with five homers, 23 RBIs and a 1.327 OPS, plus ranking second with a .429 average. The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College signee has also been nearly flawless in the field with a .963 fielding percentage.

Michael Carswell, Sr., Woodward Academy

The 6-1, 195-pound senior has the skills to man either corner infield position, though we have him at third. Though he is not yet committed to play at the next level, scouts have taken notice of his strong footwork and arm in the field, as well as steady work at the plate that includes a .281 batting average and .439 on-base percentage through his first 18 games this spring.

Mason Compton, Jr., Flowery Branch

Known more for his work on the mound, the 6-2, 195-pound Wofford commit has also been impressive at third, where he was flawless in the field in 19 chances through his first 13 games in 2022. He's off to a .333 start at the plate.

Champ Davis, Sr., Marist

Another outstanding infielder and pitching prospect who is headed next door to South Carolina to play college ball at Wofford, the 6-2, 180-pound senior has seen action at short and on the mound, but is also seeing plenty of time at the hot corner. He was an integral part of the War Eagles' defense of last year's Class 4A state title.

Justin Haskins, Sr., Lambert

Though he's seen a lot of innings on the mound and at first base this spring, the 6-2, 205-pound Flagler signee has made his name coming up as a third baseman for the Longhorns with a solid glove and an ability to spray the ball around the field with his left-handed bat.

Noah Hooks, Sr., Ware County

The 6-0, 200-pound senior has shown plenty of pop throughout the 2022 campaign, including a three-homer game in February. Selected to Georgia Dugout Preview's preseason South Georgia Big 10, Hooks committed to play college ball at South Georgia State College.

Kayne Jinks, Sr., Franklin County

The 6-2, 205-pound senior was lights out on the mound for the Lions last year, but is just as valuable at the hot corner. Is signed to play his college baseball at Tennessee Tech.

T.J. Kloiber, Sr., Johns Creek

At 6-2 and 210 pounds, the Georgia College and State University signee casts an imposing shadow on the mound, at third base and especially in the batter's box.

Tate McKee, Jr., Mount Paran

The 6-2, 155-pound junior has some big shoes to fill at the hot corner in succeeding 2022 MLB Draft prospect Cam Collier, who reclassified for the Class of 2021 and went off to college. However, the Georgia Tech commit demonstrated he was ready for prime time a year ago when he contributed on the mound and at the plate for the eventual Class A Private state champion Eagles.

Hayden Morris, Sr., Claxton

Well known for his work on the gridiron, the multi-talented 6-1, 185-pound senior has also proved himself quite adept on the baseball diamond. He is among the Tigers' leaders in average (.349) and RBIs (11) this spring.

Tyshon Patty, Jr., Mountain View

A versatile player who can also play short, outfield and pitch, the 6-1, 175-pound junior made a name for himself last year as a first-team all-county selection by the Gwinnett Daily Post by hitting .337 with six homers, 27 RBIs, 11 doubles, a 1.057 OPS and 26 runs scored. And he has lived up to his preseason first-team all-state honor by Georgia Dugout Preview this spring.

Will Prigge, Sr., Lovett

The 6-0, 180-pound senior is a valuable member of the Lovett starting pitching rotation, but he also starts at third when he's not pitching. And the Tulane commit has been just as valuable there to the defending Class 2A state runner-up Lions. He was also a first-team preseason all-state selection by Georgia Dugout Preview.

Judd Puckett, Jr., Crawford County

The 6-5, 215-pound junior is comfortable at either position on the left side of the infield, and has come into his own at the plate, where he has shown plenty of power, with potential to get even stronger.

Drew Rothschild, Sr., Cartersville

The 6-0, 185-pound senior had kind of flown under the radar a bit, but has opened a lot of eyes by becoming an RBI machine for the Purple Hurricanes this spring by driving in multiple runs in numerous games. It was enough to earn him an offer to play at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College next season.

Kyle Shivers, Sr., Loganville

Though he plays a lot of innings in the field at second base, the 6-0, 215-pound senior is also experienced at third. No matter which position, Shivers is a force at the plate in his first season at Loganville after transferring from Region 8-5A rival Eastside over the summer following a junior season in which he was named player of the year by the Covington News and Newton Citizen.

Tyler Triche, Sr., North Forsyth

The 6-1, 190-pound senior is valued for his clean fielding and big arm at the hot corner, as well as his versatility at the plate, based on his ability to hit with power and use different parts of the field. Triche is signed to play college baseball in the Sun Belt Conference with Georgia Southern.

Gavin West, Jr., ACE Charter

After a breakthrough sophomore campaign in which he hit .388 and drove in 35 runs to help the Gryphons to the Class A Pubilc semifinals a year ago, the 5-10, 175-pound third baseman has been a factor in ACE winning its first seven region games this season.

Cooper Yanzetich, Sr., Irwin County

After a big junior season at Claxton, the 6-2, 190-pound senior has moved over to Irwin County, where he continues to swing a big bat and play solid defense at third. Yanzetich will play college baseball at USC-Union.
