Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Georgia high school athlete of the week for May 9-15. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Trevor Bagwell, Pike County baseball

Bagwell closed out Greater Atlanta Christian with a gem on the mound. He pitched six innings and struck out 10 batters.

Cole Brewer, South Paulding baseball

Brewer threw a complete game versus Lassiter and gave up only three hits in the Game 1  quarterfinal win, but Lassiter bounced back and took the next two.

Dawson Campbell, Pope baseball

In Game 1 versus Buford, Campbell went five innings to earn the win on the mound and went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Game 2 as Pope eliminated Buford for the second consecutive year.

Will Curcio, Etowah baseball

Curcio was red-hot at the plate to send North Gwinnett home. He went 3-for-3 with two homers and five RBIs to help Etowah win a three-game series to advance to the semifinals, which the Eagles swept to make the 7A state championship game.

Brayden Davis, Woodstock baseball

Davis paced Woodstock’s first win over Parkview. He threw a complete game with four strikeouts and gave up only two earned runs to help Woodstock advance to the 7A championship series.

Rashun Fountain, Heritage track and field

Fountain's winning time of 20.85 seconds in the 200-meter 6A state championship broke the meet record held previously by NFL star Tyreek Hill (Coffee).

Adaejah Hodge, Alexander track and field

Hodge excelled on both days of the 6A track and field championships, soaring to the best long jump mark in Georgia this year on Day 1 at 20'4.25, then blazing to the fastest 400 in the state this year at 53.26. She also won the 100 and 200, setting a 6A record in the former with an 11.33.

Grant Hudson, Fellowship Christian baseball

Hudson was dominant on the mound versus Savannah Christian. He threw a shutout and allowed only three hits while striking out 11 batters.

Kaniya Johnson, Lowndes track and field

Johnson left no doubt in the 7A girls 100-meter championship, running the fastest time in Georgia this year at 11.26. She also won the 200 with a time of 23.20 seconds. 

Andrews Opata, Parkview baseball

Opata was a beast at the plate and on the base paths versus Colquitt County. In the close-out game he went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases to advance to the semifinals.

Dwight Phillips, Pebblebrook track and field

The sophomore edged out South Forsyth's Chris Nelson in the 100-meter 7A state championship by the thinnest of margins, running a 10.43 to beat his PR by one-hundredth of a second and Nelson by two-hundredths of a second.

Joshua Smith, Landmark Christian track and field

Smith swept the A Private triple jump and long jump, leaping to marks of 48'8 and 23'4, respectively.

Will Sumner, Woodstock track and field

Sumner won the 400-meter 7A title in a record time of 45.78, tying for current No. 1 in the United State.

Bryce Toci, North Oconee baseball

Toci capped off his great series with a walk-off home run against Thomas County Central to help send the Titans to the 4A semifinals and eventually the championship round.

Imani Washington, Wesleyan track and field

Washington reigned in the shot put and discus at the A Private state championships, winning with marks of 134’8 and 45’11.5, respectively, the latter being the longest shot put in Georgia this year in any classification.
