Top 10 Games to Watch in Georgia High School Football

Region titles are on the line as we reach the home stretch of the regular season

10. LaGrange (5-2) @ Trinity Christian (5-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

LaGrange will look to win its third straight game, coming off a 62 point performance. The Grangers have the ability to fill up a box score and light up the scoreboard, having scored 40 plus points in all of their wins. Trinity Chrisitan has been hot leading up to this match-up, having won its last five games after starting the season 0-2. Trinity Christian sits atop Region 4-4A with a 4-0 record, LaGrange with its 2-2 record has to win this game to have a chance at winning the region.

9. Loganville (8-0) @ Jefferson (5-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Loganville is having its best season in years, six years to be exact. A school that is usually known for its work on the diamond, Loganville has displayed pure dominance on the football field this season. The senior duo of quarterback Johnny Crowe and running back Solomon Leslie has been a Godsend for the Red Devils. The two have combined for 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns. The defense is also the real deal, holding opponents to an average of 12.5 points per game. Jefferson has won three straight and five of its last six. In the three-game win streak, the Dragons have scored 72 points and only given up 7. By the looks of Region 8-5A, this game could very well determine the winner of the region with both teams sitting atop undefeated.

8. Wayne County (6-1) @ Benedictine (5-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Wayne County has been balling as of late, having won five in a row. More recently, in their last two games the Yellow Jackets won a thriller in overtime and beat Islands by 50 points. Benedictine is in a similar boat, having won three in a row including a 52-7 win over Southeast Bulloch last week. Both teams sit at 2-0 in the region. Luke Kromenhoek has been special for Benedictine with 1,300 passing yards, 219 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Kromenhoek will face off against Wayne County’s offensive star Matthew Fuller who has 900 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.

7. Houston County (6-1) @ Thomas County Central (7-0) Friday 7:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets will host the Bears in a crucial region match-up. Thomas County Central sits atop Region 1-6A with a 2-0 record while Houston County is 1-1. It's hard to make an end of season prediction, with any game able to go any way, but these are possibly the two best teams in Thomas County Central and the may very well have the region locked up. The Yellow Jackets have been extremely impressive on a weekly basis. They are averaging over 40 points per game and only allowing opponents to score an average of 10 points per game. Houston County is also having one of its best seasons, and can also score with the best of them. The Bears are also averaging over 40 points per game behind the arm of Antwann Hill, Jr. Hill has been electric with over 2,000 passing yards and 19 touchdowns.

6. Collins Hill (3-4) @ Mill Creek (6-1) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Collins Hill isn’t having the year it hoped but with a region win over Mountain View last week, there is renewed hope especially if the wins keep coming. In a year where offense doesn’t come easy for the Eagles, their defense is the one silver lining. Apart from a tough 2-game stretch in the middle of the season, opponents are averaging 12 points per game. Mill Creek on the other hand is having every bit of the season it hoped for. However the Hawks are coming off their first loss of the season to Buford last week and will be looking to rebound. Both teams are 1-1 in Region 8-7A and with Buford leading the way at 2-0, another region loss is basically removing yourself from region title contention.

5. Cedar Grove (5-2) @ Sandy Creek (7-1) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Cedar Grove has won two straight after its two-game losing skid. In the last two games versus St. John’s (D.C.) and Douglass, Cedar Grove scored 77 points and only allowed 13 points. Sandy Creek is looking like one of the teams to beat in 3A. The Patriots only loss was in overtime to East Coweta. In a four team division these two teams sit at the top at 1-0. With this very well being the game that could decide the division winner both teams will be going all out.

4. Brookwood (4-3) @ Grayson (6-1) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Dylan Lonergan and the Broncos will travel to Grayson to try to win their fourth straight game and third straight region match-up. After the 60-point loss to Bishop Gorman, the Broncos have been handling their business. Grayson will be looking to go 3-0 in region play. Their play as of late has been led by the run game which features Joe Taylor who has been on a tear. With a three way tie atop Region 4-7A, with Parkview, this game has big time region implications.

3. Lowndes (4-3) @ Colquitt County (7-0) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Lowndes is looking for its first region win on the season, with its only region game so far coming against Valdosta. The Vikings are coming off an impressive 43-12 win over Dunbar (Florida). This has been a bizarre season for Lowndes. It has a better record versus Floridian opponents than in-state opponents. This is a must win for Lowndes if it plans on winning the region. Colquitt County on the other hand has had no struggles with either type of opponent. Each and every week the Packers show up and show out, but this is a game that they have had circled on their calendar since last year. Lowndes embarrassed the Packers last year by dropping 50 points on them.

2. Carrollton (8-0) @ Westlake (5-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Carrollton with freshman phenom Julian Lewis at quarterback will travel to Atlanta to play Westlake. In a season where everything has gone right for the Trojans, they now face their last true test of the regular season. Offensively, everything is clicking. They are averaging 45 points per game and have athletes all over the field. And in what gets overshadowed by the offense, the Trojans' defense is elite as well with two shutouts and having held five of its eight opponents to under double-digits. Westlake has heard all the hype given to Carrollton as the season has progressed and is looking to put an end to it. The Lions are on a four-game win streak having scored 144 points in that span while holding each opponent to under 20 points. This is a game where Westlake’s play-makers will have to show up and show out. RJ Johnson and Jai’Den Thomas will have to be on their A-games if they hope to take this contest and have a chance at winning the region.

1. North Cobb (5-2) @ Kennesaw Mountain (6-1) Friday 7:30 p.m.

North Cobb is currently on a three-game win streak and those three games have been quite impressive. First taking down Milton and Walton, both Top 25 teams and holding Walton to only three points, and also holding one of 7A’s best rushing attacks in Wheeler to 14 points. Kennesaw Mountain will look to put a hault to North Cobb’s hot-streak, especially if it plans on winning the region. The Mustangs’ usual high-powered offense was nowhere to be found last week against Walton. After scoring 40 plus in five of its first six games, they were only able to muster up 14 points. The Mustangs will look to regroup and rebound with hopes that Cayman Prangley and the passing attack can get back on track.
