Games to Watch this week in Georgia high school football

Here are 10 game you won't want to miss this week as the Georgia high school football regular season winds down

10. Bleckley County (8-1) @ Swainsboro (7-0) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Arguably the best game that will be going on in Class A on Friday night. Both of these teams have been dominant all season and have two of the best point differentials you’ll find. Bleckley County has been a well-oiled balanced machine all season. Led by Eli Mullis on offense, the Royals have scored 324 points this season. With Nehemiah Mack leading the charge defensively, they have only allowed an average of 10 points per game through nine games. Swainsboro has a legit argument for one of the best defenses in the state and just all around have been truly dominant. Believe it or not, in seven games this season the Tigers have only allowed 19 points. The offense is also chipping in. Here are some of the recent scores 48-0, 48-0, 41-12, 35-0, 47-0. This will be a great ball game from start to finish and the fact that it’s a region game will make it even more interesting.

9. Warner Robins (4-4) @ Jones County (5-3) Friday 7:30 p.m.

After losing four of its first five games, Warner Robins has caught fire and won three in a row. All three games have come against region opponents and in convincing fashion. The Demons have scored 116 points in those three games and only allowed 19. Even with the atrocious start to the season, they are tied for first in Region 2-5A with, you guessed it Jones County. Jones County has won three of its last four games, all coming against region opponents. The Greyhounds will look to continue to play great defense combined with balanced offense, with contributions from multiple players. The winner of this game may very well become the winner of the division.

8. Brookwood (4-4) @ Parkview (6-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Both teams are coming off of two very different losses but looking to bounce back this week. Brookwood lost, 42-14, to Grayson in a game which it could only muster up 14 rushing yards and gave up 255. Brookwood’s passing game is where its strength resides but it will need quarterback Dylan Lonergan to have one of the great performances we have come accustomed to seeing. Parkview is coming off a tough loss to Newton in which it got down 20-3 and the 15-point fourth quarter fell short of a great comeback. The Panthers will look to continue to ride their bell cow and superstar running back Khyair Spain.

7. Westlake (5-3) @ East Coweta (5-3) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Westlake is looking to rebound after its loss to Carrollton last week that snapped its four-game win streak. Last week, Westlake’s offense failed to get much going but with RJ Johnson and Jai’Den Thomas it would be hard to see the offense flat-lining again. East Coweta ended its two-game losing skid last week with a 44-7 win over Campbell. Quarterback Christian Langford was big in that game with three touchdowns and will need to be big again this Friday if East Coweta wants a shot at taking down Westlake.

6. Kennesaw Mountain (6-2) @ Wheeler (5-3) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Wheeler and Kennesaw Mountain will face off in a big-time region match-up. On one hand you have Wheeler that has won five of its last six games. The Wildcats have enjoyed a phenomenal season from sophomore running back Josiah Allen. Kennesaw Mountain will have its hands full trying to slow down Allen who has over 1,350 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year. Kennesaw Mountain has struggled as of late, losing its last two games. The Mustangs have only scored a total of 33 points in those two games after averaging over 40 a game in their first six games.

5. Blessed Trinity (6-2) @ Alpharetta (6-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Alpharetta will host Blessed Trinity and will look to move to 5-0 in region play, looking to tie Roswell. The Raiders have caught fire over the last four weeks and the offense with Ben Guthrie under center has been cooking. In the four-game span Alpharetta has scored 186 points while Guthrie has thrown for well over 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns. Blessed Trinity will have its hands full. The way Blessed Trinity’s defense has been playing that may be the other way around. The Titans have held their last two opponents to six and seven points and at the same time they have scored 77 points in both of those games.

4. Carver (7-2) @ Cedar Grove (6-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Cedar Grove arguably had the hardest schedule entering the season, especially the first six games. Now since playing strictly region opponents the Saints have looked even better than their hot start. They are 3-0 in region play and looking to go undefeated with a win over Carver. With only one region loss, this could be a chance for Carver to make something shake. The Panthers will look to ride the moment of last week’s blowout win over Douglas. And the defense has been phenomenal as of late, but will need to bring it’s A-game to slow down Cedar Grove.

3. Thomas County Central (8-0) @ Lee County (6-2) Friday 7:30 p.m.

Thomas County Central will look to improve to 9-0 on the season for the first time since 2007. Everything has gone right thus far for the Yellow Jackets, the offense is averaging over 40 points per game, the defense is holding opponents to a mere 12 points per game and they have found their superstar in quarterback Samuel Brown. Just because Lee County doesn’t have the perfect record doesn’t mean it hasn’t been great for the Trojans. They have played three opponents that were/are in the Top 25 and defeated two of them. They are coming off a tough loss in which they led Northside, 20-0, going into the fourth quarter and gave up 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to lose the game. With the being said, the region title is still up for grabs and looks very attainable if this game results in a win.

2. South Paulding (6-2) @ Langston Hughes (8-0) Friday 7:30 p.m.

South Paulding has been on absolute fire and will look to ride this five-game win streak all the way to Fairburn as it takes on the region leading Panthers. It can not be overstated how well the Spartans have played in their last five games. They aver averaging nearly 50 points per game during that span, with big props to running back Jamarion Wilcox. In just last game he took 28 carries for 254 yards and five, yes five touchdowns, while also having 79 receiving yards and a score. Langston Hughes will have its hands full with Wilcox and the Spartans, but if there is a defense that may have a shot at slowing down that red-hot offense its Langston Hughes. The Panthers have only allowed a total of 59 points per game this season, which is an average of just over seven points per. Speaking of last five games, Langston Hughes has three shutouts, and no opponent has made it to double digits. This is all while still averaging 51 points per game. This will be and intense match-up especially with both teams knotted up at the top spot of the region with 5-0 records.

1. Colquitt County (9-0) @ Valdosta (8-1) Friday 7:30 p.m.

The game of the week features two of the top teams in the state for the entirety of the season. Which just happens to be playing each other for the last game of their regular season that could determine the winner of the region. Valdosta was having one of its best seasons in a while and still is but the team is looking to bounce back after an upset loss last week against Camden County. It's wild to say that in that game Camden County scored 17 points and won, and that was the most points an opponent has scored on Valdosta all season. The bounce back game that Valdosta is hoping for won’t come easy against arguably one of the best teams in the state and definitely a top team in the nation. There has yet to be a game so far this season that the Packers have played in that has been close. The closest a team has come was losing by 22 points. From top to bottom there is not a hole in this Colquitt County team and championship hopes are at an all-time high. But the Packers would be foolish to overlook this Valdosta team that is also stacked with talent on both sides.
