Georgia Power 25

The big movers inside the Top 10 in Week 10 of the Georgia Boys Basketball Power 25 include Newton, which is up to No. 4, and Norcross, which is down to No. 9. Grovetown, who was highly ranked to start the season, is playing some fantastic basketball and is back up to No. 16.

South Gwinnett, Lanier, Southwest Dekalb and Dutchtown are all new additions to the Power 25 this week while several teams including Milton, Buford, Westside-Augusta and North Cobb are out.

Find the complete breakdown of the SBLive Sports Georgia Boys Basketball Power 25 below.

1. Wheeler (14-6): For the second time this season, North Cobb gave the Wildcats fits, but just like in their first meeting, they found a way to win. The Wildcats followed that up with a blowout win against Osborne 95-61 to improve to 14-6 on the season.

2. Grayson (16-5): After suffering their loss to Newton, the Rams have since rebounded with three in a row against Brookwood, Osborne and Archer. They’re sitting at 16-5 in the region and will have a huge showdown coming up against Newton next week in their regular-season finale.

3. Kell (19-2): The Longhorns are closing in on a 21-2 regular season if they can win their last two games against Northview and Greater Atlanta Chrisitan. Their only loss to a team from the state of Georgia is No. 2 Grayson. The Longhorns are in a great spot at this point in the season.

4. Newton (14-7): The Rams continue to trend upward after picking up two more wins this week. They followed up their Grayson win with wins against South Gwinnett and Brookwood to improve to 14-7 on the season. Jakai Newton is inching ever so closer to returning which could really put the Rams on a great trajectory heading into the playoffs.

5. Eagle’s Landing (22-1): Undefeated no more. The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday night to rival Dutchtown 54-52. Considering the rivalry, that isn’t a bad loss for the Eagles. They fall only one spot to No. 5 in this week’s rankings.

6. Pebblebrook (16-7): After getting upset by Westlake last week, the Falcons rebounded with three wins this week to improve to 16-7. They beat Campbell, Wilson Academy and East Coweta and they move up one spot to No. 6 in this week’s rankings.

7. Greenforest (14-7): The Eagles move up one spot to No. 7 in this week’s Power 25 after improving to 14-7. They dismantled a pair of region opponents and sandwiched a 79-72 win against Northside-Columbus between them last Saturday. They will face undefeated Christian Heritage on Saturday.

8. McEachern (17-6): The Indians continue to trend up at this point in the season after picking up three more wins. They crushed region foes Hillgrove and Marietta while also beating Calvary Christian (Fl.) last Saturday. They’re up one spot to No. 9 in this week’s Power 25.

9. Norcross (19-4): The Blue Devils take a tumble down to No. 9 after suffering a loss to Peachtree Ridge Tuesday night. It’s a game the Blue Devils should win on most every night, but weren’t able to get the job done. They’ll have to play better moving forward if they want to repeat as Class 7A state champs.

10. Alexander (18-4): After being booted out of the Top 10 last week, the Cougars are right back in it this week after a 2-0 week. They beat Newnan 63-51 and then crushed Douglas County 92-47 Tuesday night to improve to 11-0 in Region 5-6A play.

11. Sandy Creek (17-5): Despite suffering a 1-point loss to Gray Collegiate Academy (Sc.) last Saturday, the Patriots move up one spot to No. 11 after a big Region 5-AAA win against Douglass. Their next game is Saturday night against Etowah.

12. McDonough (19-3): The Warhawks move down two spots to No. 12 after cracking the Top 10 for the first time this season last week. They got into the Top 10 due in large part to their 11-point home win against region foe Pace Academy. In the rematch, the Warhawks lost to Pace on the road by nine points. These two teams are pretty dead even at this point in the season.

13. Pace Academy (17-6): After losing back-to-back games to McDonough and Milton, the Knights have since rebounded with five wins in a row. This week, they went 3-0 with a win against No. 12 McDonough 59-50. They will likely face McDonough a third time in the Region 5-4A championship.

14. Hiram (19-2): The Hornets great season continued this week with them earning two more wins. They blew out Dalton 77-56 and followed that up with a 71-33 win against Woodland to improve to 19-2 on the season. They’re 7-0 in Region 7-5A. They’re up one spot to No. 14.

15. Jonesboro (19-3): The Cardinals have looked a tad bit shaky at times this season. They struggled to beat Rockdale County in both of their meetings, but they keep winning. They’re up to 19-3 on the season and are 13-0 in Region 4-6A play.

16. Grovetown (14-8): Is Grovetown back? Those early losses this season don’t matter a bit at this point in the season. The Warriors extended their win streak to 10 in a row this week after beating Glynn Academy 86-55, Effingham County 68-50 and Lakeside 91-62. They’re also 10-0 in Region 2-6A.

17. Archer (16-5): The Tigers remain at No. 17 in this week’s rankings after beating Parkview, but losing to No. 2 Grayson 59-43. The Tigers weren’t competitive in either Grayson matchup in the regular season, but they’re still a solid team within Class 7A.

18. South Gwinnett (15-7): The Comets make their debut in the Power 25 and they’re all the way up to No. 18. The Comets have been trending up for the past few weeks and they’re turning some heads. They have a win against No. 17 Archer and they have been competitive against both No. 2 Grayson and No. 4 Newton.

19. Columbia (22-1): With a lot of teams suffering bad losses this week, Columbia isn’t one of them. They keep rattling off wins and are up to 22 wins on the season. They defeated McNair 85-38 and followed that up with an 83-45 win against Elite Scholars Academy on Tuesday. They’re 13-0 in Region 5-AA.

20. Lanier (18-4): The Longhorns are back in the Power 25 for the first time since early in the season after improving to 18-4. They’re currently riding a 13-game winning streak and they have only lost to one team from the state of Georiga this season (Mill Creek).

21. Johnson-Savannah (17-4): The Atomsmashers have been trending down for a few weeks now, but they’re back up to No. 21 in this week’s Power 25 after a good week. They beat Savannah Chrisitan and Calvary Day in blowout fashion to improve to 17-4 on the season. They have a huge Region 3-3A matchup at home against Beach Friday night.

22. Beach (19-2): The Bulldogs are up to No. 22 in this week’s rankings after picking up three more wins. They’re currently sitting at 19-2 on the season and will travel to face No. 20 Johnson-Savannah Friday night.

23. Cherokee (18-4): The Warriors went 1-1 this week with a loss to Walton and a win against North Cobb. Their win against North Cobb was very impressive. They beat them by 29 points which takes the sting off of their 48-41 loss to Walton a bit. They fall four spots to No. 23 in this week’s rankings.

24. Southwest Dekalb (18-2): The Panthers are back in the Top 25 this week after improving to 18-2 on the season. They went 3-0 this week with wins against Clarkston, Hebron Christian and Westminster. Their only losses this season have come against No. 19 Columbia and No. 5 Eagle’s Landing.

25. Dutchtown (17-7): The Bulldogs were a lock to make the Power 25 for the first time this season after handing No. 5 Eagle’s Landing its first loss of the season. But after following up that performance with a loss to Union Grove, they crack the Top 25 by the skin of their teeth.
