Georgia Girls Basketball Power25

With the regular season almost over, the SBLive Girls Basketball Power 25 saw a fair share of moves in Week 10. The Top 6 remained intact, but there was a lot of movement after that.

Norcross jumps up to No. 7, Lumpkin County jumps into the Top 10 for the first time in weeks to No. 8, Wesleyan gets back into the Top 10 at No. 9 and Buford falls to No. 10.

Find the complete breakdown of the SBLive Sports Georgia Girls Basketball Power 25 below.

1. Hebron Christian (22-0): The Lions remain at No. 1 after another stellar week. They went 3-0 which included a nice win against Southwest Dekalb last Saturday. The Lions are three wins away from finishing the regular season at a perfect 25-0.

2. River Ridge (18-5): The Knights played their first game in a week this past Tuesday and took down Etowah with ease, 68-39. They’re sitting at 18-5 on the season and are a perfect 10-0 in Region 6-6A.

3. Brookwood (21-1): The Broncos had a great week after taking down Grayson 46-38 and Newton 62-17. They complete the sweep on Grayson in Region 4-7A play and are 7-0 overall. Their last big game in region play will come next Tuesday when they travel to face No. 13 Archer.

4. Mt. Paran Christian (22-1): No one has come close to beating the Eagles in Region 6-AA play this season. They improved to 14-0 in region play this week after dismantling South Atlanta and Walker. They remain the heavy favorites to win the Class 2A state championship.

5. Lovejoy (17-4): The Wildcats’ stock continues to rise. They improved to 20-4 on the season this week after picking up three more wins. Their last win on Tuesday night came against St. Francis 75-63. They have a huge showdown Friday night when they host No. 6 Woodward Academy in Region 4-6A play.

6. Woodward Academy (17-5): The War Eagles will have a chance to leapfrog No. 5 Lovejoy in next week’s rankings, and leapfrog them in the Region 4-6A standings Friday night when they travel to face them. It’s their biggest game to date considering region tournament seedings. They lost to Lovejoy by nine points in the first meeting.

7. Norcross (21-2): The first movement in this week’s Top 10 starts at No. 7 with the Blue Devils moving up three spots. They earned the regular season sweep against Peachtree Ridge on Tuesday night, defeating them 51-38 and now sit at 21-2. They also overtake Archer as the No. 2 team in Class 7A behind Brookwood.

8. Lumpkin County (19-3): The Indians are hitting their stride at the right time. After getting a revenge win against Wesleyan, they’ve continued to pummel opponents. This past week, they beat Gilmer and Pickens in Region 7-3A play to improve to 9-1. A win against Dawson Friday night and White County next Friday will lock them into the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

9. Wesleyan (18-3): The Wolves have ping-ponged up and down the standings the last two weeks, but they find themselves back inside the Top 10 at No. 9 after a great week. Since their bad loss at Lumpkin County, they’ve rattled off three straight wins, including a 72-58 win against Buford last Saturday. That’s good enough to move them back into the Top 10 in this week’s rankings.

10. Buford (20-2): The Wolves are coming off only their second loss of the season against Wesleyan, and it was due in large part to a disastrous third quarter that saw them get out-scored 24-4. Wesleyan is the better team at this point in the season, but Buford isn’t too far behind. They come in at No. 10 in this week’s rankings, down two spots from last week.

11. St. Francis (17-6): The Knights’ first game in almost a week didn’t go as planned. They lost to No. 5 Lovejoy 75-63, and will fall two spots in this week’s rankings. Their loss wasn’t a bad one, but with some other teams earning huge wins this week and a 20-point loss to No. 10 Buford still fresh, they had nowhere to go but down.

12. Kell (17-5): The Longhorns have had an absolute cakewalk in Region 6-5A this season. Their best competition has come from Greater Atlanta Christian and they beat them by 15 points. They dismantled North Springs 92-19 and Chattahoochee 64-36 to improve to 17-5 on the season.

13. Archer (15-4): The Tigers aren’t trending in the right direction at this point in the season. After losing bad to No. 3 Brookwood, they lost in overtime to Grayson Tuesday night 57-54. Grayson has proven to be a tough out this season. They lost in OT to Brookwood earlier in the season. But the Tigers fall to No. 13 in this week’s rankings after another loss.

14. Galloway (20-4): The Scots reached the 20-win mark last Friday after taking down King’s Ridge Christian 78-20. They will wrap up their regular season Friday night at home against Mt. Pisgah.

15. Forest Park (17-5): The Panthers were in the driver's seat to head into the Region 4-6A region tournament as the No. 1 seed until they lost back-to-back games to Lovejoy and Woodward Academy. They have since rebounded with back-to-back wins against Jonesboro and Morrow and will have a chance to close out their regular season with a win against Alcovy on Friday night.

16. Rockdale County (17-7): After losing three in a row to No. 5 Lovejoy, No. 6 Woodward Academy and No. 15 Forest Park, the Bulldogs were able to stop the bleeding with back-to-back wins against Jonesboro and Morrow this week. They currently hold onto the No. 4 seed and will take that into the upcoming Region 4-6A tournament.

17. North Paulding (21-2): The Wolfpack takes over the No. 17 spot in this week’s rankings, up from No. 21 after beating Hillgrove 49-46 on Tuesday. It’s was a big win for North Paulding, especially considering that Hillgrove was fresh off a big win against McEachern.

18. Hillgrove (17-6): Talk about a letdown. After beating McEachern and earning the regular-season sweep last Friday, the Hawks followed that up with a 3-point loss at home to North Paulding. Region 3-7A is setting up to have a wild region tournament.

19. McEachern (14-7): The Indians had a chance to avenge a 19-point loss to Hillgrove last Friday night and nearly did it. They lost in overtime 60-56 to lose the regular season series between the two Region 3-7A foes. They’re down to No. 19 in this week’s rankings.

20. Peachtree Ridge (17-5): The Lions can’t and won’t beat No. 7 Norcross this season. It’s just not going to happen. But the Lions are still a solid team in Class 7A. They’re 17-5 on the season and are currently ranked No. 8 in Class 7A.

21. South Forsyth (20-3): The War Eagles are the highest they’ve been ranked all season at No. 21. They move up after beating Denmark and Lambert in Region 6-7A play this week to improve to 20-3 on the season. Their region isn’t good, but the War Eagles keep taking care of business.

22. Central-Macon (21-1): How can you not be happy for the Chargers? They continue their fantastic season with three more wins this week. They beat Kendrick, Northeast and The Academy of Classical Education to improve to 21-1 on the season.

23. Campbell (19-3): The Spartans have flirted with defeat several times this season and finally took that plunge after getting crushed by Pebblebrook 66-45 last Friday. That’s easily their worst loss of the season. They’re down to No. 23 in this week’s rankings.

24. Union Grove (18-6): After getting ranked for the first time this season, the Wolverines are up one spot to No. 24 in this week’s rankings after earning three more wins. They’re 18-6 on the season and are 10-1 in Region 2-5A play.

25. Grayson (15-7): The Rams are ranked for the first time this season after picking up an overtime win against Archer on Tuesday. The Rams have had an up-and-down season, but they’re playing very well right now.
