The final Georgia Boys Basketball Power 25 of the regular season is out and the cream has risen to the top. Wheeler has undoubtedly solidified itself as the No. 1 team in the state of Georgia after routing then No. 4 Newton, 79-60, on ESPN last Monday.

McDonough is back in the Top 10 at No. 10 after Alexander and Sandy Creek both suffered losses. Langston Hughes jumps back into the Power 25 after beating Alexander on Tuesday and Christian Heritage makes their Power 25 debut at No. 25 as the regular season comes to a close.

1. Wheeler (18-6): The Wildcats are fresh off their best week of the season and that should worry everyone else in Class 7A. They played back-to-back games twice and won all four games, including a 79-60 blowout of Newton on ESPN Monday night. They’re 9-0 in Region 5 and will wrap up their regular season on Friday night against Cherokee.

2. Grayson (18-5): The Rams have navigated a challenging Region 4-7A well and improved to 8-1 after completing regular-season sweeps of Parkview and South Gwinnett this past week. Their only slip up in region play this season was a 54-43 loss at Newton. They will get a chance at redemption and can clinch the No. 1 seed in next week’s region tournament with a win against Newton on Friday night.

3. Kell (20-2): Region 6-5A has been an absolute cakewalk for the Longhorns this season. They’re 11-0 in region play and they’re fresh off a 96-33 dismantling of Northview last Friday. They will look to wrap up their regular season with a win against Greater Atlanta Christian on Friday night. They will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s region tournament.

4. Eagle’s Landing (23-1): The Eagles move up one spot to No. 4 in this week’s rankings after improving to 23-1 on the season. They crushed Union Grove on the road last Friday night and are now gearing up for the Region 2-5A tournament that begins Thursday night.

5. Newton (16-8): The Rams drop one spot to No. 5 after suffering a bad loss on national television to No. 1 ranked Wheeler. It was by far the worst loss of the season for the Rams who hadn’t suffered bigger than a 10-point loss all season. But they were able to get revenge on Parkview Tuesday night, the only team to beat them in Region 4-7A play this season. They have a huge rematch against No. 2 Grayson on Friday night with the winner clinching the No. 1 seed in next week’s region tournament.

6. Pebblebrook (17-7): The Falcons improved to 6-1 in Region 2-7A play after beating Carrollton 75-60 on Tuesday night. But there’s still work to do before the region tournament starts. They will face Westlake in a rematch Friday night, the only team to beat them in region play. The winner will be awarded the No. 1 seed in next week’s region tournament.

7. McEachern (18-6): The Indians have had no trouble running through Region 3-7A this season. They improved to 7-0 in region play this week after beating North Paulding 83-54 on Tuesday night. They will close their regular season Friday night at home against Harrison. They will enter the region tournament as the No. 1 seed.

8. Greenforest (15-7): The Eagles ended their regular season on a high note after beating Christian Heritage, the last unbeaten team in the state of Georgia, 74-66 last Saturday. They went a perfect 6-0 in Region 7B-A Divison 1 and will now gear up for the region tournament.

9. Norcross (21-4): After losing to Peachtree Ridge last week, the Blue Devils narrowly avoided another Region 7-7A loss last Friday night after escaping with a 67-65 win against unranked North Gwinnett. They ended their regular season on a high note, however after crushing Wilson Academy (Ga.) 92-65 on Tuesday. They will enter the upcoming region tournament as the No. 1 seed.

10. McDonough (22-3): The Warhawks get back in the Top 10 this week closing out their regular season with three more Region 5-4A wins. They lost only one region game this season to No. 11 Pace Academy. Both teams one their home matchup and the two will likely meet for a third time in the upcoming region tournament finals.

11. Pace Academy (19-6): The Knights jump up to No. 11 in this week’s rankings after improving to 19-6 on the season and 13-1 in Region 5-4A play. They’re coming off a 61-52 win against Lovett last Friday and a 87-33 win against Luella on Tuesday to close out the regular season.

12. Alexander (20-5): The Cougars ended their regular season on a sour note after suffering a 56-52 overtime loss to Langston Hughes on Tuesday night. It was their first and only Region 5-6A loss this season, but it’s a costly one. They are now tied with the Panthers for first in the region and a tie-breaker will decide who gets the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

13. Sandy Creek (18-6): The Patriots drop down to No. 13 in this week’s rankings after dropping a non-region game to Etowah last Saturday night. They rebounded with a big Region 5-3A win against Carver and they will close out their regular season Friday night on the road at Cedar Grove.

14. Hiram (21-2): The Hornets improved to 21-2 on the season with a 88-45 win on the road against Cass last Friay night. They will now look to close out their regular season with a win against Cartersville on Friday night. That would give them a perfect 10-0 record in Region 7-5A this season. They’re already locked into the No. 1 seed for the upcoming region tournament.

15. Jonesboro (20-3): The Cardinals navigated a feisty Region 3-6A to finish with a perfect 14-0 record after ending their regular season with a 73-44 win against Morrow last Friday night. They will enter the region tournament as a No. 1 seed.

16. Grovetown (14-8): It wasn’t the smoothest, but the Warriors managed to close out their regular season with two more wins, the first in overtime against Brunswick 70-67 and the second against Glynn Academy 58-51. That runs their winning streak up to 12 in a row. They will enter the Region 2-6A tournament as the No. 1 seed.

17. Columbia (24-1): The Eagles picked up two more wins this week to close out their regular season with a very impressive 24-1 record. They beat Tucker 67-59 on the road last Saturday in one last non-region matchup. In Region 5-2A play, they finished 14-0 and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

18. Lanier (20-4): The Longhorns win streak now sits at 15 in a row after they took down Gainesville and Habersham Central with ease this past week. They’re 11-0 in Region 8-6A play this season and can make it a perfect 12-0 record with a win Friday night at home against Apalachee. They will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

19. Johnson-Savannah (20-4): We had the Atomsmashers ranked ahead of Beach in the Power 25 last week despite the Bulldogs handing them a loss in their first matchup, and that proved to be the right decision. In the rematch, the Atomsmashers stayed true to its name and smashed the Bulldogs 76-50 on the road last Friday night. They picked up two more wins after that to improve to 20-4 on the season. They will close out their regular season Friday night against Groves.

20. Cherokee (20-4): The Warriors move up to No. 20 in this week’s rankings after beating Kennesaw Mountain and Osborne to improve to 20-4 on the season. In Region 5-7A, the Warriors are 7-2 and they will close out the regular season with a matchup against No. 1 ranked Wheeler on Friday night.

21. South Gwinnett (17-8): The Comets slide down to No. 21 in this week’s rankings after suffering a 64-50 loss to No. 2 Grayson on Tuesday. They were more competitive in the first matchup, but they’re still locked into the No. 3 seed in Region 4-7A. They’ll face Archer Thursday night to close out their regular season.

22. Langston Hughes (18-7): The Panthers are back in the Power 25 after ending the regular season on a high note. They knocked off then No. 10 Alexander 56-52 in overtime on Tuesday to draw even with them in Region 5-6A play. A tiebreaker will determine who gets the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

23. Archer (16-8): The Tigers’ slide continues after suffering a game to Brookwood 67-64 on Tuesday night. That runs their losing streak to three games, and it could go to four on Thursday night against South Gwinnett, who already beat them earlier in the season.

24. Southwest Dekalb (21-2): The Panthers won their seventh, eighth and ninth game in a row this week to improve to 21-2 on the season. They are a perfect 15-0 in Region 6-4A play this season and will look to make it 16-0 in their regular-season finale against Holy Innocents on Friday night.

25. Christian Heritage (21-1): The Lions crack the Power 25 list for the first time this season and it comes after their first loss. They took their first loss of the season against No. 8 Greenforest, but it was a close one. The Lions are a legit 21-1 this season and will be dangerous in the postseason.
