ATLANTA, GEORGIA – It can be debated as to what position on a baseball is the most important, but it is rarely disputed that the best athlete, and often the best player, on the diamond is the shortstop.

With the 2023 high school baseball season heating up in Georgia, we want your opinion on who is the best shortstop in the state.

We have compiled the following list of 10 shortstops we feel should be in contention for this honor, as well as an explanation of why we selected them. Take time to make your opinion heard by voting in our poll on Who is the Best Shortstop in Georgia High School Baseball.

Antonio Anderson, North Atlanta

The Georgia Tech commit has people buzzing about North Atlanta and its potential this season. Anderson is the No.2 shortstop in Georgia in the class of 2023, according to Prep Baseball Report. The 2022 All American Classic Player has already shown off his power in six games with three homers including a grand slam and multiple other extra base hits.

Colin Houck, Parkview

Houck is the top-ranked player in the state, according to Prep Baseball Report. The Mississippi State commit has been a Godsend for the Panthers. He is a primary middle infielder with natural fielding instincts and clean hands. He is athletic and strong with a nice build at 6-foot-2, 190 lb.

Dylan Cupp, Cedartown

Another Mississippi State commit at the shortstop position cracks our top 10 list. With an identical frame to Houck, Cupp uses that in his defensive showing. He makes defense look easy whether it be at short or third and he is an accurate thrower with a quick release. Cupp was named to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

Tai Peete, Trinity Christian

Peete is an athletic shortstop with a 6-foot-3 frame and a 6.64 60-yard dash time. He also has a knack for pitching. With a strong arm, his 90 mph across the diamond translates well to the mound, with him topping out at 93 mph on his fastball. Peete can also play third at a high level with his arm strength and he is projected to play at the hot corner on the next level with his commitment to Georgia Tech.

Tryston Mccladdie, Harlem

Mccladdie is the only shortstop in the 2023 class in Georgia that is committed to Clemson at this time. He comes in at 6-foot tall and packs some power in his swing with an exit velo of 98.1 and quick hand speed. The star middle infielder has his team currently at 5-0 after coming off a 27-8 season in 2022.

Eric Guevara, Georgia Premier Academy

Guevara is a primary shortstop with a physical framework. The Auburn commit displays top tier arm strength, hitting as high as 91 mph across the diamond. He also has good bat speed with power that has increased steadily throughout his high school career.

Carson Kerce, Pope

Kerce was a big part of last year's 33-7 Championship team at Pope. Kerce is one of the more athletic shortstops in the 2023 class, while also being a unique pitching prospect with a side arm delivery with some sink on his fastball. His play has got the attention of major D1 colleges, and he is committed to Georgia Tech.

Arnold Abernathy Jr., North Cobb

Abernathy has solidified himself as one of the state’s top athletes and shortstops. He is twitchy and rangy in the middle of the infield with 6.7 speed in the 60. Abernathy Jr.’s play already has him committed to Tennessee in his junior year.

Connor Shouse, Pickens County

Shouse is statistically one of the state's most all-around prospects, and Georgia Tech noticed the talent and made sure to scoop him up. The junior has all the tools, standing at 6-foot, with a 6.88 60, throwing 97 mph from the outfield and across the diamond. He has shown excellent power on the high school level, quick hands and 99 mph exit velo. He has that potential on any level.

Rustan Rigdon, Metter

Rigdon is one of the most well-known players in the state and for good reason. The switch-hitting shortstop has been vital for Metter’s success over the years, especially last year’s State Championship. The electrifying junior is committed to Vanderbilt and is looking to lead his team to another State Title.
