Rams reach first state championship game in four years with win

ATLANTA, GA -- For the first time in four years, the Grayson Rams will get another shot at a state championship after defeating the Milton Eagles 57-40 Saturday night.

On a night highlighted by great team defense, the Rams held the Eagles to their second-lowest scoring output this season, and lowest against a team from the state of Georgia.

On the offensive end, the Rams were led by junior Amir Taylor, who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Gicarri Harris flirted with a triple-double, scoring 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

Grayson didn't get its first lead of the game until the closing seconds of the first quarter when Taylor put them ahead 12-11 with a floater.

After that, the Rams never trailed.

They took a 32-21 lead into the break and held serve in the second half. Leading by 10 points with just over four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Rams finished off the game on a 7-0 run to win by 17.

Milton scored just one time over the final six minutes of play.

With the win, the Rams will face off against McEachern in the Class 7A state title game. The Rams beat the Indians 79-62 in their first game of the season.
