John Mohring leaving Savannah Country Day for Wayne County

A lot of high school football head coaching vacancies are getting filled around the Peach State recently. 

Another one was filled Thursday afternoon, but one more opened up. 

According to Savannah Country Day head of school Kef Wilson, head coach John Mohring is leaving the program to take the same position at Wayne County. 

Down below is the statement from Wilson on Mohring leaving Savannah Country Day. 

“Dear Country Day Community,

I am writing to inform you that Head Football Coach John Mohring will be departing SCDS on March 15th to assume the roles of Assistant Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Wayne County High School. We are grateful to Coach Mohing for his three years of service to our school and his leadership of our football program, and we wish him and his family well in the move to Wayne County.

Effective immediately, we are beginning a search for a new head football coach. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions and please refer prospective candidates to me.” 

Mohring leaves the Hornets after three seasons at the helm, compiling an overall record of 16-16. His best season came in 2023, leading Savannah Country Day to a 7-4 mark. 

He heads to Wayne County, where the Yellow Jackets also went 7-4 in 2023.
