SBLive Power 10 Idaho high school football rankings, Week 8: Meridian now No. 1 following instant-classic win over Rocky Mountain

Lots of reshuffling of position, but no new Power 10 entrants late in regular season

Each week, SBLive Idaho will update its all-classification top-10 high school football rankings.

Here is the Week 8 list compiled by SBLive Idaho correspondent Brandon Walton:

1. MERIDIAN (7-0)

Last week: Defeated No. 2 Rocky Mountain, 14-12.

This week: Travels to Capital.

Defense does it again by holding Grizzlies to 24 points below their average, even overcoming a last-second 'Hail Mary' pass by stopping ensuing two-point conversion with a goal-line stand. Only remaining Class 5A unbeaten.

2. ROCKY MOUNTAIN (6-1)

Last week: Lost to No. 1 Meridian, 14-12.

This week: Hosts Timberline.

Overshadowed, defense did its job by holding Warriors to more than 23 points below their season average. But offense struggled in red zone by coming up short on four different occasions.

3. BISHOP KELLY (7-0)

Last week: Defeated Emmett, 43-19.

This week: Travels to Columbia.

Gave up a season-high 19 points, but still held Huskies to worst offensive showing of the year, snapping their five-game winning streak to take firm control of the 4A SIC. Clinches league title with win this week.

4. EAGLE (5-2)

Last week: Defeated No. 8 Mountain View, 28-19.

This week: Travels to Borah.

Ian Duarte’s first two touches handed team a 14-0 lead on his way to 174 all-purpose yards. Mustangs never looked back for fourth consecutive win, clinching 5A SIC River title. Will play Meridian for league championship.

5. HIGHLAND (4-3)

Last week: Defeated No. 6 Rigby, 43-42.

This week: Travels to Madison.

Comeback of the year? Rams overcame 21-point fourth-quarter deficit behind QB Drew Hymas (late TD run, TD pass and two-point conversion to Rhidge Barela) to stun the reigning state champions.

6. RIGBY (5-2)

Last week: Lost to No. 5 Highland, 43-42.

This week: Hosts Thunder Ridge.

Just don't expect this team to lose a three-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter - but it did to lose inside track to fourth consecutive 5A High Country title. Also, first loss to the Rams since 2018.

7. SKYLINE (5-2)

Last week: Defeated Blackfoot, 28-21.

This week: Travels to Bonneville.

Two-time defending 4A champions responded to being shut out for first time in three years by coming up big late behind Oregon commit Kenyon Sadiq's fourth-quarter interception and then 7-yard touchdown run.

8. MOUNTAIN VIEW (4-3)

Last week: Lost to No. 4 Eagle, 28-19.

This week: Hosts Nampa.

Mavericks couldn't overcome an early 14-0 hole and only coming away with one touchdown after getting in Mustangs' territory multiple times in their first loss in more than a month.

9. SUGAR-SALEM (6-0)

Last week: Bye.

This week: Hosts Teton.

Diggers get back at with showdown against Class 3A's No. 7 Teton that will have 3A Mountain River Conference title implications on the line as they try and go for their fifth in a row.

10. MINICO (7-1)

Last week: Defeated Jerome, 55-7.

This week: Bye.

Spartans finally get a break after eight consecutive weeks of play to rest up before a matchup with Class 4A's No. 4 Twin Falls that will decide who wins the Great Basin Conference title.
