SBLive Power 10 Idaho high school football rankings, Week 9: Mainstays Skyline, Mountain View fall out following surprise losses

Each week, SBLive Idaho will update its all-classification top-10 high school football rankings.

Here is the Week 9 list compiled by SBLive Idaho correspondent Brandon Walton:

1. MERIDIAN (8-0)

Last week: Defeated Capital, 48-3.

This week: Hosts No. 4 Eagle in 5A Southern Idaho Conference title game.

Sophomore QB Zeke Martinez had arguably his best day throwing the football with 253 yards and four touchdowns as Warriors finished regular season unbeaten for first time in 15 years.

2. ROCKY MOUNTAIN (7-1)

Last week: Defeated Timberline, 49-0.

This week: Hosts Borah in a winner-to-state game.

QB Tegan Sweaney accounted for four touchdown passes and Grizzlies defense has now given up combined 30 points over past five games. It also held the Wolves to minus-17 rushing yards.

3. BISHOP KELLY (8-0)

Last week: Defeated Columbia, 37-7.

This week: Travels to Skyview.

Claimed first 4A Southern Idaho Conference title since 2018 behind a defense that still hasn’t allowed more than 19 points in a game - and RB Peter Minnaert’s 202 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

4. EAGLE (6-2)

Last week: Defeated Borah, 41-14.

This week: Travels to No. 1 Meridian in 5A SIC title game.

Senior QB Jake Longson did it with both his arm (11-of-14, 231 yards, four touchdowns) and his legs (75 yards, TD) as Mustangs capped off regular season with their fifth consecutive win.

5. HIGHLAND (5-3)

Last week: Defeated Madison, 28-21.

This week: Hosts Thunder Ridge.

Following rare 0-2 start, Rams have now won five of their past six games, including three in a row, thanks to QB Drew Hymas, who combined for 304 yards and four touchdowns against Bobcats.

6. RIGBY (6-2)

Last week: Defeated Thunder Ridge, 41-14.

This week: Hosts Madison.

Bounced back and finished the job this time around, in large part because of junior QB Luke Flowers, who threw five touchdown passes, including two in a three-minute span in third quarter.

7. SUGAR-SALEM (6-0)

Last week: Defeated Teton, 56-6.

This week: Travels to South Fremont.

The quarterback-receiver combination of Daniel Neal (16-of-21, 282 yards, three TDs) and Ty Hirrlinger (seven catches, 108 yards, two TDs) proved unstoppable for Diggers, now on verge of fifth consecutive 3A Mountain Rivers title.

8. MINICO (7-1)

Last week: Bye.

This week: Travels to No. 9 Twin Falls.

Fully rested after tough eight-week stretch, Spartans will not only look for their sixth win in a row, but for back-to-back 4A Great Basin Conference championships and a fourth consecutive win over the Bruins.

9. TWIN FALLS (7-1)

Last week: Beat Canyon Ridge, 44-25.

This week: Host No. 8 Minico.

A 27-7 loss to Pocatello back in Week 3 seems like distant memory for Bruins, who have rattled off five consecutive double-digit win and can now claim their first league title since 2018.

10. MIDDLETON (6-2)

Last week: Defeated Centennial, 21-0.

This week: Hosts Kuna in a winner-to-state game.

Defense posted first shutout, and senior QB Dekker Hagler threw for a touchdown and ran for another for Vikings, whose only losses are to No. 1 Meridian and No. 2 Rocky Mountain.
