Second-ranked Rocky Mountain also clinches a playoff spot; No. 10 Middleton upended by Kuna in final seconds, 22-21

Each week, SBLive will rank the top 10 teams across the state of Idaho, regardless of classification. Here’s a look at how those teams fared in games played in Week 9 of the 2022 high school football season.

HOW THE TOP 10 FARED — OCT. 21

1. MERIDIAN 9-0 (5A) defeats No. 4 Eagle, 35-0

Like it's been all season - defense ruled the day. Warriors ride two interception returns for touchdowns (Ryan Corder, Spencer Aland) to clinch first league title since 2007.

2. ROCKY MOUNTAIN 8-1 (5A) defeats Borah, 50-20

Grizzlies did what they came to do - stamp their name in the Class 5A state brackets, likely as the No. 2 overall seeds.

3. BISHOP KELLY 9-0 (4A) defeats Skyview, 42-20

RB Peter Minnaert rushed for 72 yards and three touchdowns, and Knights broke 14-14 tie with three third-quarter scores in 3:59 span to clinch No. 1 seed in playoffs.

4. EAGLE (4A) 6-3 loses to No. 1 Meridian, 35-0

When you commit five turnovers against the No. 1 team in the state - no shot. Offense also could not get ATH Ian Duarte (51 total yards) untracked on any big plays.

5. HIGHLAND 6-3 (5A) defeats Thunder Ridge, 44-26

WR Gunner Wilhelm erased slow start (two early turnovers) with two second-quarter scores (8-yard run, 67-yard reception on reverse pass) and a fumble recovery.

6. RIGBY 7-2 (5A) defeats Madison, 42-0

Who has a big enough arm to throw darts in a stiff breeze? QB Luke Flowers can. His 41-yard touchdown pass with nine seconds to go in first half gave Trojans 14-0 lead.

7. SUGAR-SALEM 8-0 (3A) defeats South Fremont, 47-19

Another 3A Mountain Rivers Conference title in the bag! QB Daniel Neal passed for 160 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran for another three scores in the win.

8. MINICO 8-1 (4A) defeats No. 9 Twin Falls, 23-7

It took two fourth-quarter scores - RB Joseph Terry's 7-yard run and RB Jafeth Bendele's 2-yard run - to net the Spartans back-to-back 4A Great Basin titles..

9. TWIN FALLS 7-2 (4A) loses to No. 8 Minico, 23-7

RB Wyatt Solosabal put jolt in this league championship game with 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown midway through third quarter to cut it to 10-7. That was it.

10. MIDDLETON 6-3 (5A) loses to Kuna, 22-21

Viks blow chance to clinch 5A playoff berth as Cole Luekenga's long touchdown pass and two-point conversion with 35 seconds to go complete comeback for Kavemen.
