Highlights: Coeur d'Alene battles Mater Dei (CA) in third place game at Tarkanian Classic

The Vikings turned in a strong offensive performance despite a 65-55 loss

LAS VEGAS– Coeur d'Alene girls basketball, still red-hot despite dropping its last two games, held its own on Thursday against one of the more prominent programs in the country, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA).

The Vikings fell 65-55 to MD in the third place game of the Tarkanian Classic, but not before winning their first two games of the tournament and giving the Monarchs a strong effort. After going down 10-0 in the opening minutes, Coeur d'Alene played the Southern California powerhouse evenly, finishing fourth in the tournament's top division (Diamond) out of five. Their only prior loss this season came a day earlier against Sierra Canyon, the reigning California State Open Division champion and arguably the best team in the country.

Wyoming commit Madison Symons led all scorers with 18 points, Teagan Colvin scored 12 points, Kelsey Carroll scored 9 points, and Kendall Omlin finished with 8.
