How SBLive Illinois' Power 25 teams fared in Week 6: No. 20 York knocks off No. 5 Glenbard West

No. 3 Mount Carmel holds off Brother Rice for 28-21 victory to remain undefeated

Here’s a look at the Week 6 results for the teams in the SBLive Illinois Power 25.

1. East St. Louis (4-2) defeated Belleville West 55-0

The top-ranked Flyers recorded their second shutout in three weeks in a dominant Southwestern Conference victory over the Maroons. East St. Louis hosts Alton (1-5) for homecoming in Week 7.

2. Lincoln-Way East (6-0) defeated Sandburg 44-0

Lincoln-Way East led 37-0 at the half before cruising to a 44-0 win over Sandburg. They’ll take an undefeated record into Homewood Flossmoor next week.

3. Mount Carmel (6-0) defeated Brother Rice 28-21

It wasn’t easy, but Mount Carmel continued its unbeaten streak with a key defensive stop late in the fourth quarter. The two teams were tied at 14 at the half before a Noah Smith interception set up a Denny Furlong touchdown catch from Blainey Dowling to go up one score. Blainey Dowling also scored the go-ahead touchdown with about two minutes left. Brother Rice got into Mt. Carmel territory but turned it over on downs to end the game.

4. Loyola Academy (6-0) defeated Marist 28-17

Jake Stearney found Declan Forde for a 52-yard touchdown to take a 28-17 lead with 7:07 left in the game. He also tossed a TD pass to Will Nimesheim to go up 21-14 in the third quarter. Both Mount Carmel and Loyola faced more difficult tests than they have all season, but both found a way to win.

5. Glenbard West (5-1) lost to No. 20 York 17-13

Kelly Watson had a 96-yard touchdown return to give York a 10-7 lead in the second quarter on its way to the upset win. Matt Sutter had a red zone interception to seal the win.

6. Neuqua Valley (5-1) defeated Metea Valley 36-0

Neuqua is now playoff eligible with a dominant defeat of Metea Valley. Ryan Mohler and Grant Larkin connected on two first quarter touchdowns in the win.

7. Wheaton North (5-1) defeated Glenbard North 21-14

Senior running back Tyler O’Connor rushed for two touchdowns and kicked three extra points in the win.

8. Lemont (6-0) defeated Thornton Fractional North 63-6

Lemont continued its unbeaten season with a convincing 57-point win.

9. Sacred Heart-Griffin (6-0) defeated Normal University 49-7

Sacred-Heart Griffin scored 28 first quarter points in a rout over Normal. They’ll take on Glenwood next week.

10. Simeon (6-0) defeated Curie 42-8

Simeon is still one of the more surprising stories from the preseason rankings and again won big.

11. Joliet Catholic (5-1) defeated St. Laurence 49-28

The 15-time state champions had a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a comfortable lead throughout in the win. The Hitters take on Brother Rice next week.

12. Warren Township (5-1) defeated Mundelein 48-8

13. Hersey (6-0) defeated Rolling Meadows 35-14

14. Prospect (5-1) defeated Elk Grove 35-21

15. O’Fallon (5-1) defeated Belleville East 49-13

The Panthers rolled to a Southwestern Conference victory. Colt Michael threw for 250 yards and five touchdowns, with Christian Joiner catching eight of those passes for 128 yards and three scores. 

16. Prairie Ridge (5-1) defeated Hampshire 62-34

17. Edwardsville (5-1) defeated Alton 51-6

Edwardsville continued its impressive start with another dominant win over Alton.

18. Maine South (4-2) defeated Glenbrook South 23-16

19. Marist (3-3) lost to Loyola 28-17

Marist gave Loyola all it could handle Friday night, but it was not enough to pull off the upset.

20. York (6-0) defeated No. 5 Glenbard West 17-13

Kelly Watson had a 96-yard touchdown return to give York a 10-7 lead in the second quarter on the way to the win. Matt Sutter had a red zone interception to keep York’s unbeaten season alive.

21. Naperville North (4-1) lost to Naperville Central 10-7 (OT)

22. Bolingbrook (3-2) defeated Homewood Flossmoor 43-36

Joshua Robinson ran for four touchdowns to pace the Raiders offense and quarterback Jonas Williams connected with I'Marion Stewart for the game-winning touchdown with 6:03 remaining. 

23. St. Rita (4-2) defeated Nazareth 33-10

24. Cary-Grove (3-3) lost to Huntley 17-14

25. Crete-Monee (5-1) defeated Thornridge 66-0
