How SBLive Illinois' Power 25 teams fared in Week 9: St. Charles North wins double-overtime thriller

No. 4 Mount Carmel plays at No. 3 Loyola Academy on Saturday

Here’s a look at the Week 9 results for the teams in the SBLive Illinois Power 25.

1. East St. Louis (7-2) defeated De Smet (Mo.) 40-10

East St. Louis finished their regular season at 7-2 following a 40-10 win at De Smet (St. Louis) on Friday. Robert Battle threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns – all to Jesse Watson – to lead the impressive Flyer offense. 

2. Lincoln-Way East (9-0) defeated Bradley-Bourbonnais 28-21 (OT)

Lincoln-Way East snuck away with a 28-21 overtime win over Bradley-Bourbonnais to finish off a 9-0 regular season. Bradley-Bourbonnais took a 21-14 lead into the 4th quarter but were not able to hang on. They finished the regular season with a 5-4 record.

3. Loyola Academy (8-0) hosts No. 4 Mount Carmel on Saturday

4. Mount Carmel (8-0) plays at No. 3 Loyola Academy on Saturday

5. Wheaton North (8-1) defeated St. Charles East 36-20

The Falcons got out to a quick 22-0 first quarter lead and didn’t look back. Wheaton North finished the season 8-1 and playoff seeding will determine who they will face off with in the first round of playoff action next week. St. Charles East finished the season 2-7.

6. Lemont (9-0) defeated Thornton Fractional South 49-6

Lemont defeated Thornton Fractional South 49-6 on Thursday to complete a perfect regular season. Payton Solomon completed 10 of 14 passes with three scores in the first half and Nate Wrublik ran for 169 yards with two TDs to lead a dominant offensive performance. 

7. Sacred Heart-Griffin (9-0) defeated Springfield Southeast 56-12

Sacred Heart-Griffin’s offense was firing on all cylinders on Friday night. The Cyclones improved to 9-0 on the season and clinched an outright Central State Eight Conference title.

8. Simeon (8-0) hosts Lane Tech on Saturday

9. York (9-0) defeated Oak Park-River Forest 34-8

York finished off their perfect regular season with a 34-8 win against OPRF in a Thursday matchup. York made school history by becoming the first team to go 9-0 in the school's 102 years. Matt Vezza threw for 286 yards and three scores to lead the offensive effort. 

10. Glenbard West (7-1) plays at Hinsdale Central on Saturday

11. Hersey (9-0) defeated Buffalo Grove 49-6

After jumping out to a 28-0 halftime lead, Hersey rolled to a 43-point victory against Buffalo Grove and clinched the school's first 9-0 season since 1975. Hersey used a quarterback duo of senior Carter Hansen and Colton Gumino and they had a pair of rushing scores each to pace the Huskie offense. 

12. Warren Township (8-1) defeated Zion-Benton 48-6

The Warren Township defense had yet another impressive showing on Friday during its big win against Zion-Benton. The Blue Devils improved to 8-1 on the season and held their opponent to less than 10 points for the sixth time in nine games this season.

13. Prospect (8-1) defeated Rolling Meadows 64-24

Prospect put up 29 points in the second quarter to take a 43-17 lead into the intermission on Thursday. The stifling defense was able to hold Rolling Meadows to just seven second-half points.

14. O’Fallon (8-1) defeated Cahokia 49-20

O’Fallon rolled to a 49-20 victory against Cahokia on Friday. Senior quarterback Colt Michael threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown to pace the Panther offense. 

15. Prairie Ridge (8-1) defeated Crystal Lake Central 56-49

There were over 100 points scored in this Fox Valley matchup as Prairie Ridge won 56-49 in shootout fashion. Prairie Ridge quarterback Tyler Vasey rushed for nearly 400 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns as the Wolves earned a share of first place in the Fox Valley Conference.

16. Maine South (7-2) defeated New Trier 28-21 (OT)

Four quarters was not enough to settle the score as the teams played to a 21-21 tie at the end of regulation. Maine South was able to escape with a 28-21 victory after scoring and then stopping New Trier on their overtime possession. 

17. Edwardsville (6-3) lost to Christian Brothers College (Mo.) 44-17

Edwardsville squared off against a top team in Missouri in Christian Brothers and held a brief 7-3 lead early. The Tigers had some good moments from Jake Curry and the passing game, but the top-ranked team in Missouri was too much to handle. 

18. Chicago Marist (6-3) defeated Brother Rice 34-16

Marist defeated rival Brother Rice after trailing 10-7 at halftime. Senior running back Chris Lofgren rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns to lead the RedHawk comeback effort. 

19. St. Rita (7-2) defeated Niles Notre Dame 30-6

St. Rita took a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter and did not look back. The running back duo of DJ Stewart (two TDs) and Ethan Middleton (more than 100 all purpose yards) helped lead the way for the Mustang offense. St. Rita will start 7A playoff play next week and Notre Dame (6-3) will be in the 6A bracket.

20. Crete-Monee (7-2) defeated Kankakee 25-22

Crete-Monee went down to the wire with Kankakee but escaped with a three-point victory. Miami-Ohio commit Lynel Billups-Williams had a 62-yard touchdown reception and a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown to help the Warriors clinch the Southland Conference title. Kankakee, who is highly ranked in Class 5A, fell to 7-2.

21. St. Charles North (8-1) defeated Batavia 32-21 (two OTs)

St. Charles North and Batavia battled to the very end on Friday and the North Stars came out on top 32-31 in double overtime. Senior running back Drew Surges crossed the goal line for the game-winning 2-point conversion. Batavia finished the regular season with a 6-3 record.

22. South Elgin (9-0) defeated Streamwood 48-6

The Storm got off to a hot start with 27 points in the first quarter and took a shutout into the fourth as they were able to coast to victory. South Elgin finishes conference play as the outright winners of the Upstate Eight Conference.

23. Neuqua Valley (7-2) defeated Metea Valley 35-7

Neuqua Valley defeated their DuPage Valley Conference rival Metea Valley on Thursday. The Wildcat defense was dominant and allowed just one first down. Neuqua clinched their fourth conference title since 2016.

24. Lockport (5-4) lost to Andrew 28-27 (two OTs)

Caden Miller had short touchdown runs in both overtime and double overtime but Lockport couldn't convert a 2-point conversion to win the contest. Andrew improved to 6-3.

25. Bolingbrook (6-3) defeated Stagg 63-6

Bolingbrook came out on fire with 42 points in the first half. Stagg got on the board in the first quarter but could not keep up with the explosive Raider offense.
