SBLive Illinois high school boys basketball Power 25 rankings (Jan. 31): Curie moves into Top 10 after beating Simeon

It's a season of parity in the Chicago area, with top teams knocking off each other every week lately. Simeon, which still has the best resume based on quality wins and strength of schedule, remains No. 1 despite its narrow loss at Curie.

Meanwhile, Marist joins the rankings this week.

Here's a look at the SBLive Illinois Power 25 (with records through Jan. 30):

1. Simeon (21-2)

Last week: 1

The Wolverines fell 50-48 to No. 8 Curie on the road between wins over Brooks (82-36, coach Robert Smith's 500th career victory) and Cape Girardeau (Mo.) Central 70-57.

2. Benet (23-1)

Last week: 2

The Redwings have won seven in a row after beating Nazareth 62-37.

3. Kenwood (19-5)

Last week: 3

The Broncos wrapped up the Public League Red South-Central title by beating Longwood 93-58 and Phillips 71-44. They also downed one of Indiana's top small-school programs, Gary 21st Century, 80-63.

4. Young (19-5)

Last week: 4

The Dolphins beat Lincoln Park 81-56 and St. Louis Chaminade 68-57.

5. Joliet West (19-5)

Last week: 5

The Tigers picked up a couple easy conference wins, 68-39 against Plainfield North and 81-41 against Plainfield Central. They take on Indiana No. 9 Indianapolis Cathedral on Saturday at the Bank of O'Fallon Shootout.

6. Moline (22-3)

Last week: 8

The Maroons rolled by Geneseo 87-38 and Rock Island 94-66 in conference action before downing Rolling Meadows 72-53 at Glenbrook South. They're at 20-3 Quincy on Friday.

7. Hillcrest (24-2)

Last week: 7

The Hawks, still unbeaten in the Chicago area, have won nine straight after beating Oak Forest 66-57, Evergreen Park 73-62 and Homewood-Flossmoor 67-65.

8. Curie (16-9)

Last week: 12

The Condors avenged an earlier 67-58 loss by getting past No. 1 Simeon 50-48. They also beat Perspectives-Leadership 73-68 and Lindblom 86-36.

9. Brother Rice (22-3)

Last week: 9

The Crusaders beat St. Laurence 55-44 and St. Ignatius 62-61. They host No. 16 Mount Carmel on Friday and face 20-6 Lemont at Evergreen Park on Sunday.

10. Hyde Park (20-5)

Last week: 8

The Thunderbirds lost to Perspectives-Leadership for the second time this season, 67-58 – underscoring how deep the Public League Red South-Central is. They also beat West Aurora 54-52.

The Mustangs beat Hersey and lost 72-53 to No. 6 Moline at Glenbrook South. They host 19-4 Libertyville on Saturday.

12. Glenbrook North (21-3)

Last week: 11

The Spartans beat Taft 69-52 before having their seven-game winning streak snapped with a 64-58 loss to 18-6 Evanston.

13. Downers Grove North (20-3)

Last week: 14

The Trojans beat Oak Park-River Forest 78-46 and Lane 63-43. They meet 19-6 Glenbrook South on Saturday in the E-Town Showdown at Northwestern's Welsh-Ryan Arena.

14. Lyons (19-3)

Last week: 15

The Lions beat 19-5 Riverside-Brookfield 61-49.

15. Bolingbrook (19-6)

Last week: 16

The Raiders beat Lockport 65-57, Sandburg 83-46 and 20-7 Loyola 60-52. They host No. 20 Lincoln-Way East on Friday.

16. Mount Carmel (21-2)

Last week: 19

The Caravan remain unbeaten in the Catholic League Blue after beating No. 22 St. Rita 84-76 and Fenwick 60-49. They're at No, 9 Brother Rice on Friday.

17. Proviso East (16-5)

Last week: 13

The Pirates were upset 69-68 by district rival Proviso West. They play Indiana No. 6 Hammond Central (17-1) on Thursday.

18. Metamora (22-2)

Last week: 20

The Redbirds have won 20 in a row after beating Morton 62-45, Canton 74-44 and Peoria 53-44.

19. Hinsdale Central (22-3)

Last week: 21

The Red Devils' winning streak is at 14 after victories over Willowbrook (67-52), York (50-38) and No. 20 Lincoln-Way East (61-54).

20. Lincoln-Way East (20-3)

Last week: 17

The Griffins knocked off Homewood-Flossmoor 71-58 and Stagg 60-42 before losing 61-54 to No. 19 Hinsdale Central.

21. New Trier (21-4)

Last week: 22

The Trevians beat LaPorte (Ind.) La Lumiere Blue 61-37, Glenbrook South 64-51 and DePaul Prep 58-42.

22. St. Rita (14-10)

Last week: 18

The Mustangs fell 84-76 to No, 16 Mount Carmel, beat Miami (Fla,) Riviera Prep 54-50 and lost 90-70 to USA Today national No. 4 Montverde (Fla.).

23. Decatur MacArthur (22-2)

Last week: 23

The Generals' seven-game winning streak ended with a 65-61 loss to 19-3 Peoria Richwoods. Earlier, they beat Peoria Manual 58-49, Normal U-High 54-38 and Rochester 62-46.

24. Oswego East (20-5)

Last week: 25

The Wolves beat Plainfield East 69-51 and West Aurora 62-53. They're at 21-4 Yorkville on Friday.

25. Marist (20-5)

Last week: NR

The RedHawks beat Niles Notre Dame 35-19 and St. Viator 53-49.
