Homewood-Flossmoor's Dillon Head selected 25th by San Diego Padres in MLB Draft

Speedy Illinois outfielder signed with Clemson

Homewood-Flossmoor center fielder Dillon Head was selected 25th overall by the San Diego Padres in the Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday night.

A 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed hitter (and thrower), Head has signed with Clemson University but will now have a big decision to make in the next few weeks.

The No. 25 overall selection comes with a slot projection number of $3.17 million, with organizations able to offer more or less than that suggested figure.

MLB.com's Draft prospect profile wrote "Head is the best position prospect to come out of Homewood-Floosmoor (Ill.) HS, which has produced three big league pitchers in John Ely, Eric Hillman and Larry Rothschild. Few players in this Draft can match his combination of hitting ability and speed, and he has pushed his way into the first round after looking a bit stronger at the plate as a senior."

Head had a strong senior season under the spotlight as he showed off his well-rounded tools. He batted .485 with 10 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 36 runs scored and 31 stolen bases.

The Homewood-Flossmoor outfielder was rated 27th in MLB.com's Draft prospect rankings. He was given a top-of-the-scale grade of 80 for his running ability.
