Here are the candidates for SBLive's Indiana High School Athlete of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct. 1 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff.

Jaylen Alexander, Hamilton Southeastern football

The Royals running back netted 192 yards on 20 carries while scoring two of HSE’s first three touchdowns. His 47-yard run opened the scoring and his 2-yarder put the Royals on top 21-0.

Addy Beery, Martinsville girls soccer

The Artesians’ sophomore scored three goals over two games last week, and added an assist. Two of her goals came in a 5-3 win over Monrovia.

Reece Bellin, Carmel football

The Greyhounds receiver finished with six catches for 138 yards and scored the winning touchdown in a battle of traditional 6A powers. Bellin opened the night with a 73-yard score and his 3-yard catch staked the Hounds to a 21-14 win over Ben Davis.

DeShawnDre Brown, Harrison football

A sophomore quarterback, Brown passed for 187 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 173 yards and two scores in his team's 42-7 win over Evansville Central. 

Macy Bruton, Crawfordsville volleyball

The state’s leader in kills, Bruton recorded her 2,000th career kill just days after reaching the 1,000 digs milestone. Boasting double-digit kills in every match this season, she had 25 in a five-set loss to Danville last week, pushing her season kill tally to 519.

Ava Bunker, Columbus North girls golf

The freshman dominated the competition to become only the second freshman in state history to win medalist honors at Indiana’s girls golf state finals. Her nine-shot win at Prairie View Golf Course tied for the second-biggest margin of victory in the 50-year history of the state tournament. She carded a 3-under-par 69 on Friday, followed by a 1-over-73 in Saturday’s final round. Her final card of 142 matched the best score in the nine years the finals have been played at Prairie View.

Micah Coyle, Center Grove football

Coyle ran for 148 yards on just 12 carries and scored two of the Trojans’ first three touchdowns on scores from 25 and 64 yards, as top-ranked Center Grove shutout Pike, 48-0.

Bodie Derrer, Hamilton Heights football

Derrer threw for four TDs and ran for another as Hamilton Heights blitzed Tipton, 42-7. Derrer’s 66-yard TD pass opened the scoring and his 1-yard sneak gave the Huskies a 14-0 advantage. He completed 15 of 23 passes for 210 yards.

Amanda Evers, Zionsville volleyball

Evers paced the Eagles with 21 assists and seven aces in a sweep of Ben Davis. She added 23 assists in a four-set loss to Brownsburg.

Naija Gadis, Brebeuf volleyball

The senior cleared 3,000 career assists during the Marion County quarterfinals, then helped rally her team to a five-set win over Roncalli in the championship match.

Gabby Gilbert, Pike volleyball

In back-to-back matches against Carmel and Southport, Gilbert scattered five aces, two blocks, 26 digs and six assists – on top of 20 kills (.357 hitting pct) against Carmel and another 25 (.413) against Southport.

Luke Hansen, Roncalli football

The state’s leading ground-gainer went over 300 yards for the third time this season, finishing with 316 yards on 37 carries. Hansen packaged touchdown runs of 58 and 73 yards around a pair of 1-yard scores to account for all four of the Royals’ scores.

Sam Holland, Noblesville boys soccer

Holland scored multiple goals in consecutive games last week, including a two-goal, two-assist performance in the Millers’ 4-1 win over Franklin Central.

Ashley Kirkland, Castle girls golf

A sophomore, Kirkland posted the best second-round score at the Indiana girls golf finals with a 72. That strong second-day performance helped her finish second overall with a two-day score of 151 and helped Castle finish tied for second in the team standings. 

Addison Knoblauch, Homestead girls cross country

The Homestead junior turned in the fastest Indiana time for a second-place finish at the Nike XC Town Twilight meet. Knoblauch’s personal-best time of 17:21.3 trailed Ciara O’Shea of Madison Central in Kentucky.

Kole Mathison, Carmel boys cross country

Mathison, a senior, won top honors at the Nike XC Town Twilight meet, Saturday in Terre Haute. Mathison’s 14:51.7 was within three seconds of course record and nearly five seconds ahead of defending Midwest champion Andrew Hauser of Rock Bridge, Missouri, in second place. Mathison’s time was his best of this season, and the best in the state this season.

Clay McClelland, Charleston football

McClelland was 12-of-21 passing for 191 yards and two passing TDs in a 42-27 win over Corydon. He also carried 31 times for 229 yards and three more scores. In all, he totaled 420 yards in total offense.

Danny O’Neil, Cathedral football

The junior QB passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Irish put away visiting Cincinnati LaSalle, 37-6. O’Neil’s 47-yard strike to Javon Tibbs opened the scoring, and he scored twice on the ground in the second quarter. O’Neil finished 21-of-28 passing for 217 yards.

Devan Roberts, Gibson Southern football

Roberts carried 11 times for 121 yards and four touchdowns to help Gibson Southern remain unbeaten.

Kervens Saint-Paul, Speedway boys soccer

The Sparkplugs junior scored his fourth hat trick of the season while Speedway beat Monrovia, 4-2. He boasts 21 goals and five assists entering this week’s playoff round.

Claire Swathwood, Carmel girls golf

The Greyhounds junior shot a 155 over two days to lead Carmel to a team championship at the Indiana girls golf state finals. Swathwood’s final round of 70 cut five strokes off her Friday round while adjusting to windy weather conditions and finish in sixth place overall.

Grayson Thomas, New Palestine football

Thomas rushed for 138 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns. Thomas raised his season rushing total to 1,024 yards to become the first Dragon in school history to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards in three different seasons.

Luke Valerio, Heritage Christian football

Valerio had 11 receptions for 152 yards and ran twice for 29 yards. Valerio’s 70-yard catch staked the Eagles to a 20-13 lead and he caught a two-point conversation late in the game for a 35-25 lead.

Trey Woods, NorthWood football

Woods scored both NorthWood touchdowns in a critical 14-6 win in a battle of unbeatens. Woods took a 45-yard touchdown pass on the game’s first series, and after the Cavemen pulled within 7-6 and missed a two-point conversion, Woods took the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for the only other score of the game.
