Fishers defeats Crown Point: Live score, Indiana (IHSAA) high school basketball semi-states recap (3/16/2024)

The semi-state round of the Indiana high school boys basketball playoffs is here. By the end of Saturday, matchups will be set for the state finals.

Fishers, the top-ranked team in Indiana and No. 21 team in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, takes on Crown Point in the IHSAA 4A semi-state semifinals at Elkhart’s historic North Side Gymnasium. 

Fishers (26-1) enters the day on a 10-game winning streak, and Crown Point (21-5), ranked No. 20 in Indiana, has won six games in a row. The winner plays again tonight in the semi-state championship, with a spot in the state finals on the line.

Fishers vs. Crown Point is being streamed by IHSAA and is scheduled to tip off at 10:00 a.m. ET.

FOURTH QUARTER

-- Fishers wins 48-37, earning a spot in tonight's semi-state championship. The Tigers will play the winner of Mishawaka vs. Fort Wayne Wayne at 7:30 p.m. ET.

-- Cooper Zachary hits a pair of free throws to make it 48-37. All of the Tigers starters sub out of the game with 16 seconds left on the clock.

-- Taden Metzger goes 2-for-2 from the free throw line, extending Fishers' lead to 46-37 with 25 seconds left. That should be enough to seal the victory for the Tigers.

-- Crown Point senior Elliot Swan fouls out of the game, as Jason Gardner goes to the free throw line for Fishers and makes one of two shots. The Tigers lead 44-35 with 45 seconds left.

-- Taden Metzger nails a three for Fishers to make it 43-35 with 1:04 remaining.

-- Fishers head coach Garrett Winegar calls a timeout to avoid a turnover. That's the last timeout for the Tigers, who lead 40-35 with 1:29 left in the fourth quarter.

-- Fishers seems more focused on draining the clock than scoring, and the plan is backfiring at the moment. Crown Point's swarming defense leads to another two points off a turnover, and it's suddenly 40-35 with 2:59 to go.

-- Crown Point is turning up the heat defensively with time winding down. The trap leads to a turnover and score for Kingston Rhodes, making it 40-31 with less than four minutes remaining.

-- Taden Metzger sinks a three from the corner to extend Fishers' lead to 40-27. 

-- JonAnthony Hall pins a layup against the glass to save two points for Fishers, then the junior runs the floor for his own layup on the other end. The Tigers lead 37-26 with 5:39 to go.

THIRD QUARTER

-- Keenan Garner comes up with a steal and fastbreak dunk for Fishers in the final minute of the quarter. The Tigers lead 35-26 through three quarters of the semi-state semifinals.

-- Svetich drops in a floater to break a scoreless drought for both teams. Crown Point trails 33-26 with two minutes left in the quarter.

-- Jack Svetich hits a three for Crown Point coming out of an inbound pass, bringing the Bulldogs within seven.

-- Fishers scores right off the bat in the third quarter, as Keenan Garner finds space down low for an easy bucket. 

SECOND QUARTER

-- With Fishers trying to hold for the last shot of the half, Mason Darrell steals a pass and is fouled on a fastbreak layup in the final seconds. The sophomore guard goes 1-for-1 from the line, so Fishers leads 27-19 after one half.

-- Jack Svetich drops in a layup make it a 6-0 run for Crown Point, and it's back to a single-digit difference on the scoreboard.

-- Senior forward Seamus Malaski scores a quick four points for Crown Point to get it back to an 11-point game.

-- Crown Point calls another timeout after Fishers jumps out to a 15-point lead halfway through the quarter.

-- Freshman guards Cooper Zachary and Jason Gardner hit back-to-back threes for Fishers to extend the lead to 23-9.

-- Fishers freshman Jason Gardner runs out in transition for a layup to give the Tigers a 17-7 lead with 6:34 left in the quarter. Crown Point head coach Clint Swan calls a timeout.

FIRST QUARTER

-- Crown Point sophomore Dekembi Shaw misses a three in the final seconds of the quarter. After a slow start in the opening minutes, Fishers has taken control and leads 15-7 entering the second quarter.

-- Make it five points for Taden Metzger, who cuts backdoor for a layup to make it 10-6 in favor of Fishers.

-- JonAnthony Hall hits a three to give Fishers its first lead of the game, 8-6. Taden Metzger has three points early for the Tigers after going 1-for-2 from the free throw line and hitting a mid-range jumper.

-- Dikembe Shaw comes up with a massive rejection to keep Fishers off the scoreboard nearly three minutes in.

-- Crown Point scores the first points of the game, as Dikembe Shaw pulls up and drains a mid-range jumper.
