Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Iowa high school athlete of the week for June 6-12 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

BASEBALL

Kyler Owen, Fremont-Mills

The junior outfielder continues his torrid early pace, leading the state with an .800 average. Owen was 3-for-4 in a 13-2 win over East Mills Monday and added another hit Tuesday in a 7-6 win over Shenandoah. 

Jace Figueroa, West Burlington

The junior shortstop was 4-for-5 with an RBI against Mediapolis Friday. Figueroa is ranked second statewide with a .692 average.

Malachi Johnson, Ankeny Christian

The senior shortstop was 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Eagles remained unbeaten at 14-0 with an 11-2 win over Mormon Trail Friday.

Brycen Wookey, Murray

The senior catcher had a double and homer and drove in six runs in a 17-0 win over Moulten-Udell Friday. Wookey has a .619 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage.

Justice Weers, Tri-Center

The Briar Cliff University commit pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight and hit a home run in an 11-1 win over Logan-Magnolia. The Trojans have an 11-0 record this season.

Eric McGill, Woodbury Central

The sophomore third baseman was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in a 9-7 win over OABCIG on Tuesday. The Wildcats are 9-2 and tied for the Western Valley Conference lead with a 5-0 record.

Trever Baumler, Dowling

The sophomore stayed hot at the plate with two home runs and three RBI in an 8-6 win over Waukee Northwest Thursday. Baumler leads the state with nine round-trippers.

Bo Schmidt, Sigourney

The senior hit a walk-off grand slam home run and knocked in five in a 10-6 win over North Mahaska Thursday. Schmidt was also the winning pitcher for the unbeaten Savages.

Garrett Kadolph, Western Dubuque

The senior and Augustana College recruit was 4-for-5 and drove in a run in a 6-5 win over Iowa City Liberty on Friday. The Bobcats have a 16-3 record.

Ian Gill, Sioux City Heelan

The senior first baseman clubbed his seventh home run of the season in a 6-0 win over city rival East on Thursday. Gill ranks second in the state in home runs.

Reese Moore, Van Meter

Iowa recruit and ghe top-ranked catcher in the state for the Class of 2022 hit his sixth homer of the season in a 10-3 victory over Winteset Saturday. Van Meter is the three-time defending Iowa Class 1A state champion.

Doug Taylor, Mason City Newman

The junior drove in the only two runs of the game in Newman’s 2-0 win over Saint Ansgar Friday. Taylor leads the state with 32 RBIs.

Trevor Daggett, Pleasantville

The senior first baseman had a combined four hits and five RBI in doubleheader sweep of Woodward-Granger on Thursday.

Damon Weber, Kee

The senior third baseman drove in his 29th run of the season in a 10-0 win over Saint Ansgar on Saturday. Kee picked up its 20th victory of the season.

Ben Swalls, Clear Creek-Amana

The senior third baseman drove in five runs as his team put up 15 in a six-run loss to Iowa City Liberty on Saturday.

Hunter Pick, Remsen St. Mary’s

The sophomore had three RBI as the unbeaten and top-ranked (Class 1A) Hawks opened the week with an 11-1 win over Harris-Lake Park.

Austin Hillmer, North Linn

The senior speedster swiped three bases in a 10-3 win over East Buchanan in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday. The centerfielder leads the state with 33 stolen bases.

Carter Schorg, Remsen St. Mary's

The Briar Cliff recruit pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight in 5-0 win over MMCRU on Friday. Schorg has not allowed an earned run this season.

Aidan Anderson, Keota

The junior picked up his sixth pitching win of the season in a 5-0 win over Colfax-Mingo Friday. Anderson struck out eight in 5.2 innings and has not given up an earned run.

Will Doty, Grinnell

Senior notched his fifth pitching victory in 6-3 win over Pella on Friday. Doty came on in relief, working the final six innings.

Sam Holloway, ADM

The junior pitched three shutout innings in a 5-3 win over Winterset Wednesday. Holloway still hasn’t allowed an earned run this season.

Trey Benson, Cherokee

The senior pitched four shutout innings in a 13-2 win over Manson-Northwest Webster Tuesday. The Braves are 13-2 and tied for the Lakes Conference lead.

Aidan Sieperda, Sergeant Bluff-Luton

The senior pitched a no-hitter and struck out seven in a 1-0 win over Harlan Saturday night.

Kaleb Gengler, Sioux City Heelan

The senior struck out 15 Sioux City East batters in Heelan’s 6-0 win on Thursday. Gengler is among the state leaders with 54 strikeouts.

Sam Wilt, Anamosa

The senior hit his fifth home run of the season in 3-2 win over Central DeWitt in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

SOFTBALL

Alexis Houge, Collins-Maxwell

The DePaul University commit had three hits and drove in two runs in a 12-1 win over Lone Tree Saturday. The senior shortstop is batting .724 for the season.

Emma Boswell, Orient-Macksburg

The sensational eighth grader hit two home runs and drove in six in a four-inning 16-0 win over Des Moines North Saturday. For the season, Boswell has a .698 average with four homers and 22 RBIs in 15 games.

Lily Coil, Waterloo Columbus

Another outstanding young performer, the freshman was 3-for-3 with two triples and four RBI against Hillcrest Academy Friday. Coil has 26 hits in 38 at-bat with seven triples on the season.

Taylor Henson, Lamoni

The freshman phenom was 3-for-3 at the plate against Moravia on Wednesday. In eight games, Henson has collected 16 hits in 22 at-bats to lead the state with a .727 average.

Jena Young, Winterset

The junior University of Iowa commit hit for the cycle and drove in four runs in a 12-0 win over Woodward-Granger Friday. For the season, Young has 10 homers and 32 RBIs and a .635 batting average.

Abbie Capesius, Algona Garrigan

The sophomore had two hits and drove in two in a 12-0 win over Forest City Wednesday. Capesius ranks in the top 10 statewide with a .632 average.

Hailey Rosonke, South Hardin

The sophomore standout was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in a 6-1 win over Dike-New Hartford Wednesday.

Olivia Mentzer, Sioux City East

The sophomore was 3-for-5 with three RBI in an 11-10 loss to Sioux City Bishop Heelan Thursday. Mentzer has driven in 35 runs this season.

Alexis Barden, Cedar Rapids Prairie

The senior shortstop hit her ninth home run of the season in a 10-0 win over Iowa City West Wednesday. She had three more hits in the first game of the doubleheader.

Anna Weathers, Des Moines Christian

The freshman catcher hit two home runs and drove in seven in a 13-1 win over Ogden Thursday. Weathers leads the stte with 11 round-trippers.

Katelynn Lappe, Bondurant-Farrar

The senior shortstop hit a three-run homer in a 4-2 win over Mount Ayr Saturday. Lappe has 10 home runs this season.

Jadyn Glab, Dubuque Hempstead

The junior shortstop was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in a 9-5 loss to Dubuque Wahlert Thursday. Glab is tied for second in the state with 10 home runs.

Anna Bellcock, Newell-Fonda

The senior third basemen had two hits and drove in three runs in a 17-2 win over Denison-Schleswig Saturday. Bellcock has 29 RBI for the third-ranked Mustangs.

Breanna Nolte, Southeast Warren

The junior catcher had a double and a homer and drove in three runs in a 10-2 win over Wayne on Friday. Nolte has seven homers and 28 RBIs to go along with a .500 average.

Erika Kruse, Fort Madison

The junior hit a three-run homer and was the winning pitcher as the Bloodhounds edged Keokuk 8-7 on Thursday. Kruse has six homers and 26 RBIs on the season.

Elle Ridgeway, Williamsburg

The junior first baseman cracked two homers and drove in four in a 10-9 loss to Muscatine Friday. Ridgeway has five homers, 24 RBIs and a .400 average.

Rylee Coyle, Humboldt

The sophomore hit a homer and drove in three in a 7-0 win over Algona Friday. It was the seventh homer of the season for Coyle.

Gianna Lara, W.D.M. Valley

The senior was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a 6-0 win over Alburnett Saturday. Lara has eight homers this season.

Brooklyn Ocker, Sergeant Bluff-Luton

The freshman collected two doubles and drove in a pair in an 11-1 win over Sioux City North Tuesday. The Warriors are leading the Missouri River Conference.

Isabel Bernard, Sumner-Fredricksburg

The freshman stole eight bases in an 8-1 win over Oelwein in the first game of a doubleheader Monday. She added another steal in the nightcap and leads the state with 36.

Marissa Hagen, West Central Valley

The junior picked up her state-leading 14th pitching win in a 13-0 victory over Des Moines North on Saturday.

Ryleigh Algood, Lisbon

The junior struck out 10 in a 6-4, eight-inning win over Center Point-Urbana Saturday. Algood has 13 wins for second-ranked (1A) Lions.

Kierra Jungers, Newell-Fonda

The sophomore picked up her 13th pitching win of the season for the third-ranked Mustangs in a 9-1 victory over Roland-Story Saturday.

Marina Cronin, Remsen St. Mary’s

The sophomore pitched a four-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over MMCRU Friday. The No. 7 (1A) Hawks are undefeated at 13-0.

Ava Smithson, Johnston

The sophomore catcher drove in four runs as the top-ranked (Class 5A) Dragons blanked Keokuk 15-0 Saturday.
