This week's Iowa prep volleyball Top 25 rankings

The season heads to Week 6 for Iowa high school volleyball teams. Here are the Top 25 teams in the SBLive Iowa power rankings, in a list that places schools from all five classifications into one. 

1. Dike-New Hartford (25-2 record, Last Week No, 1) 

The Wolverines suffered their second loss of the year, to Mount Vernon in the Mount Vernon Tourney, but also defeated Pleasant Valley and Iowa City Liberty, which are Top 10 Class 5A teams. Therefore, Class 2A DNH remains No. 1 for a fifth consecutive week. Junior Elite All-Stater Payton Petersen has 237 kills and is hitting at .324 efficiency.

2. Marion (20-3, LW No. 3) 

Class 4A powerhouse has lots of quality wins, with their few losses going to Xavier and North Scott. Setter Avery Van Hook has 485 assists and Michaela Goad is leading in kills. 

3. Ankeny (24-4, LW No. 5) 

Class 5A Hawks have a six match win streak over two weeks, with lots of quality wins. Ankeny beat Dowling 3-2 in a key contest on Sept. 22, and junior Aowyn Schrader had 15 kills in that win.

4. Pleasant Valley (16-6, LW No. 2) 

The team lost to top-ranked Dike-New Hartford in a Sept. 24 tourney, which was a highly anticipated match. As the Spartans aim to repeat with another Class 5A title, they sit 5-0 at the top of the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

5. Western Christian (16-3, LW No, 6) 

The Class 2A Wolfpack have won 11 matches in a row, and keep climbing. Stella Winterfeld continues to shine with a diverse game in 2022, with 194 kills and 123 digs.

6. Assumption (Davenport) (20-5, LW No.7) 

Class 3A Assumption has won seven consecutive matches. The Knights’ senior Ava Schubert last week moved into the program’s top spot for career kills, with 1,212.

7. Dowling Catholic (23-8, LW No. 4) 

The Class 5A team went 5-3 on the busy week, which included play in the Cedar Falls tourney, where the Maroons both beat and lost to Grundy Center. Dowling also narrowly dropped a close 3-2 match with Ankeny.

8. Ankeny Centennial (16-5, LW No. 8)

 The Class 5A Jaguars continue to be competitive with state-ranked squads. Setter Reagan Angus directs the offense and has 339 assists.

9. Cedar Rapids Xavier (19-1, LW No. 13)

 Xavier is one of the biggest movers this week, as it continues a 10-match win streak. The Class 4A team has only lost to North Scott, and that loss was later avenged. Setter Anna Shoger has 386 assists.

10. Iowa City Liberty (17-7, LW No. 9) 

Class 5A Liberty went 3-1 over the past week, with a quality loss to top-ranked Dike-New Hartford, while also nabbing key wins over Pleasant Valley and Cedar Falls.

11. Waukee Northwest (19-6, LW No. 12)

 Class 5A Wolves won four of five matches for the week, with much of that play in the Cedar Falls Tourney. Junior setter Katey Lockyear has 391 assists.

12. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (18-3, LW No. 10)

 Class 2A E-B-F has won eight matches in a row, with the sole match last week a victory over Davis County. Setter Kate Schafer has 436 assists and 41 blocks.

13. North Scott (23-3, LW No, 16) 

The Class 4A Lancers won all five matches for the week. Setter Nora Ralfs has doled out 301 assists and Abbey Hayes has accumulated 221 kills.

14. Mount Vernon (20-3, LW No. 11)

Class 3A Mount Vernon saw an eight-match winning streak end, going 5-2 for the week, but one of the wins was over top-ranked Dike-New Hartford in the Mount Vernon Fall Classic. Two losses were to large Class 4A teams Xavier and North Scott.

15. Des Moines Christian (31-2, LW No. 17)

 The Class 3A Lions have surged lately, with a 7-0 week among their recent performances. Their only two losses have been to Dike-New Hartford and Class 5A Johnston. Hadley Hardersen has 317 assists and 45aces.

16. Cedar Falls (20-6, LW No. 14)

 The Class 5A Tigers have gone 9-2 over the last two weeks. The Tigers went 4-1 in their own tourney, with that one loss coming to Dowling.

17. West Liberty (18-4, LW No. 20) 

The Comets had a 3-1 week, with the loss to a tough Class 4A Xavier team. West Liberty was the Class 3A state runner-up in 2021, and this year super sophomore Sophie Buysee has 177 kills.

18. Springville (25-2, LW No. 15) 

The Class 1A Orioles had not lost since Week One, and had their second loss last week to North Cedar in the North Cedar Tourney. Kennedy Breitfelder has 169 kills.

19. Wapsie Valley (29-2, LW No. 21)

 Class 2A Wapsie is riding a 14 match win streak, and one of the two season losses is to top-ranked Dike-New Hartford. Kalvyn Rosengarten set a new school record in career solo blocks with 146.

20. Ankeny Christian (21-3, LW No. 18) 

Class 1A squad saw a double-digit win streak end, after two losses in the Dunkerton Tourney, including to the host team. Sophomore setter Katie Quick has amassed 409 assists.

21. Johnston (11-6, LW Unranked) 

Class 5A team returns to the power rankings on the heels of a five-match winning streak, including one over Dowling. Setter Molly Trachta has 381 assists.

22. Western Dubuque (14-3, LW Unranked) 

Western Dubuque won the Class 4A title in 2021 and is on an upward trajectory in 2022 to land in the rankings. The Bobcats are led in digs by Ella Meyer with 318, and she also has 38 service aces.

23. North Tama (17-3, LW No.19) 

The Redhawks play in Class 1A, and have a loss to top tier 1A foe Springville. Setter Jadyn Rausch has passed out 383 assists as she runs the North Tama offense.

24. West Burlington (26-5, LW 24) 

The Class 2A Falcons went 5-1 for the week. Senior Sophia Armstrong has produced 288 kills and 49 blocks.

25. Sioux Center (17-3, LW No. 22) 

Class 3A team went 3-2 for the week. Sioux Center also has a previous loss to nearby Class 2A powerhouse Western Christian.
