The Week 7 Top 25 prep volleyball rankings

The season heads to Week 7 for Iowa high school volleyball teams. Here are the Top 25 teams in the SBLive Iowa power rankings, in a list that places schools from all five classifications into one. 

1. Dike-New Hartford (26-2 record, Last Week No, 1) 

The Wolverines had a rare slow week, with only one match, which was a win. Aiming for a third straight Class 2A title, the team is purring along, with losses only to Class 5A Dowling and Class 3A Mount Vernon, while being victorious over a host of Class 5A teams. 

2. Marion (26-3, LW No. 2) 

Class 4A Marion had a 6-0 week of play. Some of the stellar players include Setter Avery Van Hook, who has 616 assists, and Michaela Goad, who has 262 kills.

3. Ankeny (25-4, LW No. 3) 

The Class 5A Hawks have a seven match winning streak. Setter Jesa Wallace has 747 assists, which ranks third among all Iowa preps.

4. Pleasant Valley (22-6, LW No. 4) 

The Class 5A Spartans went 6-0 for the sixth week of the season. As the Spartans aim to repeat with another Class 5A title, Siena Roethler is ably leading the offense with 615 assists, which places her fourth in that statistic.

5. Western Christian (26-4, LW No. 5) 

The Class 2A Wolfpack had a packed week, going 10-1, with the sole loss to a top tier South Dakota team, Sioux Falls Christian. The Wolfpack beat Class 5A team Ankeny Centennial twice in a tourney, and in a rare accomplishment saw two players, Abby VerBurg and Stella Winterfeld, surpass 1,000 career kills in the same week.

6. Assumption (Davenport) (21-5, LW No.6)

 Class 3A Assumption has won eight consecutive matches. Senior Ava Schubert, who holds the program’s top spot for career kills, now has 196 for the 2022 season.

7. Cedar Rapids Xavier (26-1, LW No. 9) 

Xavier continues an upward arc, with a 7-0 week and having won 17 matches in a row. The sole loss Class 4A Xavier experienced to North Scott was later avenged with a victory over that same squad. Setter Anna Shoger has 510 assists.

8. Dowling Catholic (24-8, LW No. 7) 

The Class 5A team went 1-0 over the week, and holds a key early season win over Dike-New Hartford. Sophomore setter Ella Rogers has passed out 490 assists.

9. Ankeny Centennial (21-7, LW No. 8) 

The Class 5A Jaguars had five wins and two losses, with both of those defeats coming in the Urbandale tourney to highly ranked Western Christian.

10. Iowa City Liberty (24-8, LW No. 10)

 The Class 5A Liberty squad had a 6-1 week, which included a win over Class 3A Mount Vernon and loss to Class 4A Xavier. Over the week, All-Stater Cassidy Hartman reached 1,000 career digs and setter Asta Hildebrand hit the 1,000 mark in career assists, and both players now rank second in Liberty archives.

11. North Scott (24-3, LW No. 13)

 The Class 4A Lancers squad have won six straight matches over two weeks. Abbey Hayes has delivered 234 kills and Nora Ralfs has 319 assists setting the offense.

12. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (23-4, LW No. 12) 

The Class 2A Rockets won five of six matches, with the sole loss a five-set defeat by Oskaloosa. Sophomore Setter Kate Schafer has 573 assists.

13. Waukee Northwest (21-8, LW No. 11)

 The Wolves split four matches, with the two losses to fellow ranked Class 5A squads Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial.

14. Mount Vernon (24-3, LW No. 14)

 Class 3A Mount Vernon won all four matches in Week 6. The three season losses have come to top-ranked D-NH and to larger Class 4A teams Xavier and North Scott. Super sophomore Chloe Meester has amassed 314 kills.

15. Des Moines Christian (35-3, LW No. 15)

 The Class 3A Lions continue to play a rugged schedule, and lost last week to Class 5A Ankeny Centennial. Their only other two losses have been to top-ranked Dike-New Hartford and Class 5A Johnston.

16. Cedar Falls (21-6, LW No. 16)

 The Class 5A Tigers have won 10 of 12 matches over the last three weeks. Freshman Setter Brynn Bakula continues to impress with 623 assists.

17. West Liberty (18-4, LW No. 17) 

West Liberty was the Class 3A state runner-up in 2021, and won five of six matches over Week Six of the 2022 season. The loss was to Class 5A Pleasant Valley, so the Comets held their 17th place.

18. Wapsie Valley (34-3, LW No 19)

 Wapsie Valley’s Anna Curley racked up her 100th career block, as the Class 3A team went 5-1 for the week. The one loss was highly competitive, to much larger Class 5A Pleasant Valley in the finals of the Western Dubuque Tourney.

19. Springville (27-2, LW No. 18)

 The Class 1A Orioles won both matches last week. Setter Nia Howard has 593 assists.

20 Ankeny Christian (29-3, LW No. 20)

 Class 1A squad saw a double-digit win streak end in Week 5, then last week went 8-0.

21. West Burlington (31-6, LW No. 24)

 The Class 2A Falcons had a 10-1 record for Week Six, making them for a 15-2 last two weeks. Abby Bence of West Burlington leads all setters in Iowa with 804 assists.

22. Sioux Center (19-3, LW No. 25) 

Class 3A Sioux Center won both its matches, and one of the earlier season losses was to Western Christian. Regan Jansen has produced 181 kills and 34 aces.

23. North Tama (22-4, LW No.23)

 Class 1A team North Tama had a 5-1 week, with the loss to Sumner-Fredricksburg. Addison Hochstetler has dug out 289 digs for the Redhawks defense.

24. Western Dubuque (18-5, LW No. 22)

 The Class 4A Bobcats won four of six matches, with the losses coming to Class Class 3A West Liberty and Class 2A Wapsie Valley, two ranked teams.

25. Johnston (14-9, LW No. 21)

 The Class 5A squad split six matches, with a notable loss to Class 2A Western Christian. Setter Molly Trachta has spread around 495 assists.
