By Dana Becker

Many of the top football athletes in the state of Iowa took advantage of the early signing period, but for others, Wednesday was that special day.

Below is a list of Iowa FBS and FCS players who signed. If we missed anyone, please email nate@scorebooklive.com

WR - Ayden Price, West Des Moines Valley

Price had offers from a handful of other schools, but will instead head to Iowa City and join the Hawks. He had a standout performance in helping the Tigers reach the Class 5A state title game this past fall, catching 67 passes for 685 yards and five scores, while also rushing for 274 yards and three more TDs.

DL - Obald Niyonkuru, Southeast Polk

Another part of the incredible talented senior class for the Rams, Niyonkuru recorded 50 tackles with 3.5 sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss and two turnovers this past fall.

DE/TE - Aidan George, Johnston

George will bring quite the frame with him, as the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder can play on either side of the football. He had 11 quarterback sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss last year, while also catching a touchdown pass.

LB - John Powers, Bondurant-Farrar

Powers was a key piece of the Bondurant-Farrar defense, recording 83.5 tackles with six sacks and 25 stops for loss.

FB - Rusty VanWetzinga, Pleasant Valley

VanWetzinga opted to sign with the Hawkeyes after a standout season for the Spartans. He ran for 262 yards and scored eight touchdowns out of the fullback position, while also catching three passes. VanWetzinga could also shift to defense, as he recorded 58 tackles with a sack out of his linebacker spot.

LB - Nolan DeLong, Durant

DeLong did it all for Durant this past fall, rushing for over 2,100 yards to finish fifth in the state. He had 250 carries without a fumble, while recording 66 tackles including 14 for loss on defense.

LB - Jack Laughlin, Carlisle

Laughlin recorded 55.5 tackles with 7.5 for loss while also rushing for almost 1,500 yards and 24 touchdowns.

OL - Reese Steele, Southeast Polk (Iowa Central)

After dominating at Southeast Polk, Steele took his talents to the junior college level and Iowa Central, where he continued to be a force along the offensive line, earning All-American honors.

TE - Colton Hoag, Le Mars (Iowa Central)

Hoag, a 6-foot-3, 230-pounder, caught 16 passes for 227 yards with four touchdowns during his two-year career at Iowa Central after standing out at Le Mars as a prep.

TE - Jalyn Thompson, West Des Moines Dowling

Thompson has all the size and tools needed to become the next member of Iowa’s famed tight end legacy. He caught 22 passes for 305 yards with Penn State commit Jaxon Smolik at West Des Moines Dowling last year.
