Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Iowa High School Team of the Week for Jan. 31-Feb. 6 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.
West Fork girls basketball
The Warhawks improved to 20-0 on the season as Emma Martinek became the first girl in school history to reach 1,000 points.
Clear Lake girls basketball
The Comets picked up another home win, 52-9 over Iowa Falls-Alden, extending their winning streak to 15 games.
Lake Mills boys basketball
The Bulldogs (19-0) kept their perfect record intact with a 70-33 win over Forest City and have already clinched a first place finish in the TIC West
Davenport Assumption girls basketball
The Class 3A Knights battled Class 5A No. 1 Pleasant Valley to the wire, falling 54-51, but had a chance to tie with a 3-pointer at the end.
Waterloo West girls basketball
The Class 5A third-ranked Wahawks won a tense 54-49 battle over No. 8 Cedar Falls, running their winning streak to 10 while clinching its fourth straight Mississippi Valley Conference title.
North Linn boys basketball
The defending Class 1A state champion Lynx staged a fourth-quarter rally to overtake Dunkerton 60-46 in a matchup of unbeaten teams.
Bondurant-Farrar boys basketball
The Bluejays stayed unbeaten at 17-0 with a pair of easy wins. Colby Collison and Jaxson Fried continue to impress for B-F.
West Des Moines Valley boys basketball
The Tigers stretched their winning streak to eight games with two victories and get a shot at powerful squads Waukee and Cedar Rapids Kennedy before the end of the regular season.
Central Lyon girls basketball
The 17-0 Lions pulled out a 62-58 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan, their closest competitor in the Siouxland Conference, and can close a perfect regular season with a win over George-Little Rock this week.
Dike-New Hartford girls basketball
Although Aplington-Parkersburg snapped the Wolverines’ streak of nine straight foes to score under 30 points, it still fell in a one-sided contest, 73-36 to the juggernaut that appears primed to claim its third straight state title.
Sioux Central boys basketball
Jacob Hargens combined for 57 points as the Rebels ran their record to 19-0 with wins over Storm Lake and GTRA. Newell-Fonda and Hinton stand in the way of a perfect regular season.
Waverly-Shell Rock boys wrestling
The G-Hawks won their third straight Class 3A state dual title, beating rival Southeast Polk 36-33 in the final.
Don Bosco boys wrestling
The Dons claimed their third consecutive Class 1A state dual crown, handling Wilton 36-25 in the championship match.
Osage boys wrestling
Osage ended the four-year reign of West Delaware as Class 2A state dual champs, 37-28, in the final.
Waverly-Shell Rock girls wrestling
The Go-Hawks won the first-ever sanctioned Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state wrestling championship. W-SR was also a winner in the unsanctioned tourney last year.
