Booster club theft preceded Iowa high school football coach's surprise resignation: Report

Coming off a 10-win season and a run to the Iowa Class 3A state semifinals in the fall, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn football coach Garrison Carter's resignation earlier this month shocked many.

But reports surfaced this week that the ADM football coach admitted to taking money from the team's booster club, then returning it after being confronted by Gridiron Club board members.

In his resignation letter to the school on May 12, Carter cited his reason for leaving as wanting to focus on his mental health and spending time with family.

Then on May 16, Carter was approved to be hired at the Creston Community School District as a special education teacher and join the Panthers' football coaching staff.

His teaching contract with Creston is slated to begin July 1.

The president of the Gridiron Club at ADM, David Felt, declined to disclose to KCCI 8 in Des Moines how much money had been taken and then returned. He also said no formal charges were made against Carter because he returned the money.

Carter had been ADM's head football coach since 2018.
