Here are the candidates for the Kentucky high school Athlete of the Week for Oct. 3-9 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers. 

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Jacob Childress, Henry Clay football

Childress racked up 292 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries during the Blue Devils’ 47-27 win over Lafayette on Friday.

Brysen Dugger, Pulaski County football

Dugger continued his sensational senior season by completing 25 of 29 passes for 361 yards and five touchdowns during a 47-13 win over North Laurel on Friday. Dugger now leads the state in both passing yards with 2,090 and passing touchdowns with 29 on the season.

Kade Elam, Corbin football

Elam completed 11 of 13 passes for 319 yards and five touchdowns as Corbin blitzed past Knox Central with a 50-0 win.

Griffin Gould, Trinity soccer

Gould scored two goals in Trinity’s 4-0 win over Highlands Latin in the 27th District Championship on Thursday, then netted another goal in the Shamrocks’ 5-0 victory over Collegiate in the first round of the Region 7 tournament.

Lincoln Herald, Grant County boys cross country

Herald placed first out of 208 runners to win the Haunted Woods Classic on Saturday. His time of 15:51.10 set a new Grant County school record.

Brady Hensley, Madison Central football

The junior running back carried the ball 16 times for 163 yards and a score and also added a 41-yard reception in Madison Central’s 42-0 win over Oldham County.

Jayden Lawson, Simon Kenton football

The senior racked up 314 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries as the Pioneers beat Dixie Heights 66-23 on Thursday.

Jeremiah Mundy-Lloyd, Bryan Station football

The Defenders made a statement with their 50-7 win over George Rogers Clark, which was powered by Mundy-Lloyd. The senior running back carried the ball 20 times for 144 yards and four touchdowns.

Aden Nelson, Woodford County football

Nelson had an efficient night in the Yellow Jackets’ 36-0 win over Madison Southern. He carried the ball just three times for 136 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 24 yards on three receptions and contributed to the shutout with four tackles on defense.

Emily Paul, Atherton girls soccer

Paul netted five goals and had an assist during Atherton’s 10-0 win over Waggener in the first round of the District 27 soccer tournament. Although the Ravens were eliminated by Sacred Heart in the following round, Paul was named to the all-District team.

Sophie Paul, Woodford County girls soccer

Paul came up with clutch goals in both of the Yellow Jackets’ wins to secure the District 30 championship last week. She scored the tying goal in the team’s eventual 2-1 win over Collins in the semifinals then produced the game-winner during double overtime in a 2-1 win over Anderson County.

Ethan Roszkowski, Covington Catholic boys soccer

Roszkowski scored a combined four goals and dished two assists during the Colonels’ two wins in the District 35 tournament. The senior scored once in the team’s 10-0 win over Holmes, then dominated with three goals and two assists in a 7-0 victory over Beechwood.

Kamri Smith, Great Crossing girls soccer

Great Crossing coach Minyoung Bowling credited Smith for helping Great Crossing shut out both Frankfort and Franklin County during victories in the District 41 tournament. The senior center back helped ensure that the Warhawks’ two opponents combined for just three shots on goal.

Zavian Smith, Lake Cumberland bass fishing

Smith won both days of the two-day Bradley Roy Open bass fishing tournament, taking the top spot in both the individual tournament on Lake Cumberland and the team tournament on Barren River Lake.

Carter Stewart, Corbin football

Stewart benefited from Elam’s big game by catching seven passes for 235 yards and four scores. He accounted for nearly 75 percent of the team’s receiving production in its 50-0 win.

Cortez Stone, Central football

Stone exploded for 340 yards and five touchdowns on just 10 carries in Central’s 64-0 win over Waggener last week. The sophomore is now averaging 8.0 yards per attempt on the season.

Xavion Ware, Western football

Ware rushed for 248 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, leading the Warriors to a 34-0 win over Iroquois. He also scored a two-point conversion.

Jackson Wasik, Lexington Catholic football

Wasik completed 23 of 29 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a score in the Knights’ 28-27 upset of Boyle County. Wasik helped lead the team to 21 unanswered points in the second half to end the Rebels’ 19-game winning streak.

Demetrick Welch, Newport Central Catholic football

Welch accounted for 226 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns in the Thoroughbreds’ 60-30 win over Ludlow. The junior carried the ball 13 times for 192 yards and a pair of scores and added two catches for 34 yards and another touchdown.

Jaheim Williams, Henderson County football

Williams made the most of his nine touches in Henderson County’s 62-28 win over Apollo. The senior caught four passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns while rushing five times for another 101 yards and a score.
