9 Louisiana high school football coaches suspended for rest of season after mid-game altercation: report
A Louisiana high school football coach and eight other members of his staff have been suspended for the rest of the 2022 season after an altercation during a road game on Oct. 20.
Monroe, La.-based news station KNOE reported Wednesday that the dispute, which took place during Carroll's game against Franklin Parish, began when police received multiple complaints that coached were using profanity in the press box.
When approached by a sheriff in the fourth quarter, the coaches refused to go back their own sideline and tensions escalated opposing fans stepped in to help law enforcement, according to the news station. The game was delayed for four minutes in the quarter.
Once play resumed, Carroll went on to win 29-8 on the road in Winnsboro, which is some 40 miles southeast of Monroe.
Louisiana High School Athletic Association's suspension stems from an investigation into the incident. Monroe City Schools, where Carroll is located, said it is appealing the LHSAA decision.
Coaches aren't allowed to go to practice or games as a part of the LHSAA ruling.
“It was a situation, an altercation with my coaches trying to come down out of the stands,” Carroll head coach Brandon Landers. “From my understanding, they wouldn’t let them down so it kind of got a little rough up there, but at the end of the day, we’re victorious tonight.”
