It was a banner year for high school football in Maryland, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

From quarterbacks to running backs to wide receivers, there was plenty to get excited about if you were a fan of high school football in Maryland during the 2023 season.

Now, it's time for you vote on the 2023 Maryland High School Football Offensive Player of the Year from the list of deserving candidates we have profiled below.

We’ve selected 14 worthy candidates and ask you the fan to vote for who you think topped them all.

Voting will end on January 7th, 2024 and 11:59 p.m..

Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominations: 

Ethan Arenson, Linganore, Senior: The 5-foot-8, 190-pound running back amassed 2,389 yards and 36 touchdowns for the Class 3A state runner-up Lancers.

Evan Austin, Oakdale, Senior: Headed to Charlotte to play receiver, Austin was arguably the state’s best dual-threat quarterbacks, passing for 2,283 yards and 28 touchdowns along with 1,244 rushing yards and 22 scores.

David Avit, Winston Churchill, Senior: Avit, a Villanova signee, led Churchill to its first state semifinals since 1995, rushing for 2,487 yards and 34 total touchdowns.

Brycen Coleman, Stephen Decatur, Senior: Coleman, who will play for Vanderbilt next fall, completed 157 of 232 for 2,285 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushed 653 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading Decatur to its first state championship (Class 2A).

Jabril Daniels, Fort Hill, Junior: The running back capped his season with a 304-yard performance in the Class 1A state final, finishing the year with 1,826 yards and 33 touchdowns for the undefeated Sentinels (14-0).

Jeff Exinor, McDonogh, Junior: The state’s top receiver in the Class of 2025, Exinor caught 72 passes for 872 yards and 11 touchdowns, leading McDonogh to the MIAA A Conference title game.

Kaleb Hart, North Point, Senior: The running back had more than 1,600 yards rushing and scored 15 touchdowns as North Point reached the Class 4A/3A state title game for the second straight year.

Dilin Jones, Good Counsel, Senior: The Wisconsin signee posted 887 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns as Good Counsel won its first WCAC championship since 2019.

Evan Kuntz, Huntingtown, Senior: The quarterback accounted for more than 3,200 yards (2,321 passing) and 39 touchdowns for the Hurricanes, who reached the Class 2A state final.

Ray Moore, Mervo, Senior: The 6-foot-4, 190-pound quarterback threw for 2,228 yards and 37 touchdowns including game-winning fourth quarter throws in the semifinal and championship round as Mervo won the Class 4A/3A title.

Hunter Thompson, Oakdale, Senior: The 6-foot-3, 205-pound wideout finished with 78 receptions for 1,451 yards and 21 touchdowns as Oakdale went 14-0 and claimed the 3A state championship.

Michael Van Buren, St. Frances, Senior: The Mississippi State recruit finished with 2,100 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Panthers, who opened the season ranked No. 2 nationally in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Top 25.

Malik Washington, Archbishop Spalding, Junior: The state’s top quarterback in the Class of 2025, Washington completed 195 of 313 passes for 2,093 yards and accounted for 27 touchdowns (21 passing) as Spalding claimed a second straight MIAA A Conference championship.

DeCarlos Young, Henry A. Wise, Junior: Young rushed for 1,606 yards and 28 touchdowns for the Class 4A state champ Pumas, rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the final.
