Maryland player drills 3-pointer at buzzer to send team to high school state championship game (video)

Will Shapiro hit the game-winner as time expired to give Whitman a 67-66 victory over Richard Montgomery in the 4A Maryland boys basketball semifinals

What a moment for Will Shapiro.

Shapiro, a sophomore guard at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland, had not scored a single point in his team's MPSSAA 4A boys basketball semifinal matchup vs. Richard Montgomery on Wednesday night.

Then he drilled the biggest shot of his life.

Trailing 66-64 with less than 5 seconds to play in the game, Shapiro caught a length-of-the-court pass from Titian DeRosa at the right wing and let it fly just before the buzzer. The shot rattled home, giving Whitman a 67-66 win and setting off a wild celebration. (You can watch the full highlight in the video above.) The play was featured on ESPN's SportsCenter Wednesday night.

Whitman advances to face Frederick in the Maryland 4A boys basketball state championship game on Saturday at Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland.
