We have officially made it to October football everybody. Get your popcorn ready and take the flannels out of the closet because some exciting cold weather football is almost here. Let’s take a look at this week’s best matchups in Michigan high school football.

Utica Eisenhower (5-1) @ No. 12 Dakota (6-0)

This might be the top matchup in the state this week.

Dakota keep rising in the rankings. Will the pressure get them and Utica pulls the upset, or can Dakota improve to 7-0?

St. Louis (0-6) @ Valley Lutheran (0-6)

This week’s battle of winless teams features St. Louis and Valley Lutheran. A win is big no matter the record or opponent, so for one of these teams, a disappointing season drags on. For the other, all the hard work will finally pay off.

North Branch (6-0) @ Armada (5-1)

North Branch’s quest for a perfect season has a big hurdle to overcome this week when it heads to Armada.

This is a huge game for two teams that are both having very good years, and Armada has the home crowd to back them up against the undefeated visitor. This should be a good one.

Bad Axe (4-1) @ Laker (5-0)

A similar story for this battle. Both of these teams are having great seasons, and there’s a good opportunity in front of both of them to make it even better. It certainly won’t be easy for either, especially for Bad Axe, who goes into hostile territory against an unbeaten foe. Games like this are special.

Bedford (4-2) @ No. 7 Saline (6-0)

Saline is one of the best teams in the state. The Hornets have been dominating the SEC for years and are once again sitting with a perfect record into October.

Bedford is always a powerhouse in the conference as well, but does it have what it takes to go to Saline and knock off the 6-0 Hornets? You’re going to want to keep an eye on this one.

Gladwin (6-0) @ Notre Dame Prep (6-1)

A number of undefeated teams have very difficult challenges ahead of them this week, and Gladwin is one of them. Going on the road to ND Prep will not be easy. Will Gladwin remain perfect or can ND Prep spoil the show?

Ludington (5-1) @ No. 15 Whitehall (6-0)

12th ranked Whitehall has a sneaky tough matchup this week. Ludington has had a very solid year so far, and a win against a ranked undefeated team could turn some heads. If Whitehall comes out sleepwalking at all it could be in real trouble.

Chippewa Valley (5-1) @ Romeo (4-2)

Romeo has the home field advantage here, and welcoming a prominent team will surely have that crowd rowdy, but it will need its A-game to take down Chippewa Valley and stay among the ranked teams.

Walled Lake Western (5-1) @ Mott (5-1)

Walled Lake Western is coming off its first loss of the season a week ago to Davison, and it’ll be interesting to see the response to that.

Mott is having a good year and is playing at home. After a team stays undefeated for a while like Walled Lake did, that first loss can be deflating and derail a season. We’ll see if Western can get back on track and avoid a downward spiral.

Ovid-Elsie (4-2) @ New Lothrop (6-0)

New Lothrop is another undefeated team that has a big test this week. This game makes a big difference for Ovid-Elsie’s season. 5-2 is very different from 4-3. Knocking off an undefeated on the road can spark a surge to end the year. This one should provide a lot of excitement.
