Here are the candidates for the Michigan High School Athlete of the Week for May 15-21 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced Monday.

Keiton Fase, Rockford High School

Senior sprinter Keiton Fase had a great performance for Rockford at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Fase finished in second place in the 100m dash with a final time of 10.63, marking a personal record and the second fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division, first place in the 200m run with a time of 22.22, as well as contributing to first place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Shamar Heard, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley

Junior sprinter Shamar Heard showed out last week with his performances. At the MAC Red Championships, Heard finished in first place in the 200m run with a time of 21.73, marking the seventh fastest time in the state in the event this year among the men’s division, second place in the 400m run with a time of 50.13, while also contributing to first place finishes in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. 

At the MHSAA Regional Championships, Heard took a first place finish in the 400m run with a time of 48.46, marking a personal record and the third fastest time in the state in that event among the men’s division, while contributing to a first place finish in the 4x200 relay, and second place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Drew Graves, Utica Ford High School

Junior Drew Graves did it all at the MAC White Meet. Graves finished first place in the 200m run with a time of 22.64, marking a personal record, first place in the 400m run with a time of 48.45, marking another personal record and the second fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division, a first place finish in the 4x200 relay, and a fourth place finish in long jump.

Braxton Brann, Ann Arbor Huron

Senior and Ohio State commit, Braxton Brann, showed he is one of the best in the country at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Brann took first place finishes in the 100m dash, 200m run, and the 110m hurdles where he finished with a time of 13.92, marking the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division. Brann also contributed to a first place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Michael Davis-Hawkins, Detroit Cass Tech

Senior Michael Davis-Hawkins earned a career achievement at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Davis-Hawkins finished first place in the 300m hurdles, marking a personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the men’s division.

Lailah Palmer, Beverly Hills Grove

For the second consecutive week, senior Lailah Palmer had a great performance on the track for Beverly Hills Grove at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Palmer finished second place in the 100m dash with a time of 12.12, marking a personal record and the fifth fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division, first place in the 200m run with a time of 24.85, marking another personal record and the fourth fastest time in the state in that event this year, while also contributing in the 4x100 relay for a first place finish.

Jayla Dace, Detroit Renaissance

Sophomore Jayla Dace displayed her talents at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Dace took first place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.91, marking a personal record and the fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division, second place in the 200m run with a time of 24.95, and contributed to a first place finish in the 4x100 relay, and a second place finish in the 4x200 relay.

Maya Rollins, Ann Arbor Pioneer

Junior Maya Rollins had herself a performance at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Rollins finished first place in the 200m run with a time of 24.93, marking a personal record and the fifth fastest time in the state in that event this year among the women’s division, first place in the 100m hurdles, marking another personal record and the second fastest time in the state in the event this year among the women’s division, first place in the 300m hurdles. 

Rollins also contributed to a first place finish in the 4x200 relay.

Elizabeth Anderson, New Boston Huron

For the second consecutive week, senior Elizabeth Anderson had a good performance at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Anderson had a first place finish in the 100m dash, first place in the 200m run, marking a personal record and the sixth fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division, and first place in the 400m run, marking the third fastest time in the state this year in that event among the women’s division. 

Anderson also contributed in the 4x400 relay for a first place finish.

Mia Rogan, Saline High School

Senior Mia Rogan had a good performance at the MHSAA Regional Finals. 

Rogan finished second place in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.43, marking a personal record and the fifth fastest time in the state in that event this year among the women’s division. 

Rogan also contributed to fourth place finishes in the 4x200 and 4x400 relay, while taking second in the 4x800 relay. 

Baseball

AJ Hardy, Southfield Arts & Tech

Senior AJ Hardy had an outstanding performance for Southfield Arts & Tech as they beat Thurston, 27-11. 

Hardy would finish the game 5-for-5 at bat as he notched one run, three doubles, 10 RBIs, and one home run.

Jaxon Huffman, Mona Shores High School

Mona Shores’ Jaxon Huffman had a great performance on Thursday in a 10-1 win over Reeths-Puffer. 

Huffman finished with a .500 batting average as he scored two runs, three RBIs, and two home runs.

Chad Fisher, Annapolis High School

Annapolis’ Chad Fisher led the Cougars in a big win on Tuesday against Redford Union, 16-0. 

Fisher went 3-for-4 at bat as he finished with two runs, four RBIs, and one home run.

Justin Osterhouse, Forest Hills Central

Forest Hills Central’s Justin Osterhouse put up some good numbers all week in meetings against Christian and Jenison. 

In a 14-6 loss to Christian, Osterhouse went 2-for-4 at bat as he finished with one run, two RBIs, and one home run. 

In a 10-3 loss to Jenison, Osterhouse had a .333 batting average as he notched one run, three RBIs, and one home run.

Noah Etnyre, Plymouth Christian Academy

Senior Noah Etnyre was dominant on the diamond for Plymouth Christian in their big win against Roeper, 17-0. 

Etnyre finished the day 3-for-4 at bat as he notched five runs, six RBIs, and one home run. 

Korbyn Russell, East Jordan

Russell had a home run and five total bases in a game against East Jordan on May 15. As a closer, he threw 13 pitches, 10 of which were strikes, giving his team the victory.

During game two, he had two doubles and five total bases. He closed the last inning with 11 pitches, eight of which were strikes for the win.

Softball

Ava Costales, Lakeview High School

Senior Ava Costales had great performances for Lakeview against Lake Shore and Cousino. In a big loss to Lake Shore, Costales finished 2-for-2 at bat as she notched one run, one RBI, and one home run. 

In a 20-5 win against Cousino, went 1-for-3 at bat finishing with one run, two RBIs, and one home run.

Natalie Savage, Howell High School

Senior Natalie Savage had stellar performances for Howell in their two games against Linden. In a 11-10 loss, Savage notched a .500 batting average as she finished with three runs, two RBIs, and one home run. 

In a 18-3 loss in game two, Savage finished with 1.000 batting average as she had one run, one RBI, and one home run.

Brooke Meeker, St. Francis High School

St. Francis’ Booke Meeker had a good performance in a win against Grayling. 

Meeker went 3-for-3 at bat as she finished with two runs, three RBIs, and one home run.

Kianna Vork, Hamilton High School

Sophomore Kianna Vork had an outstanding performance for Hamilton in their win against Fruitport on Tuesday. 

Vork went 3-for-4 at bat as she finished with three runs, five RBI’s, and two home runs.
